Many experts have their suspicions that he did it at all. The surveillance video is fuzzy at best, and you never saw the perpetrator's face. Also note that the poster wasn't stolen, it was just put on the ground.

He seemed drugged at the show trial, and the excuse that he gave about why he did it made absolutely no sense and was clearly not his words. His family was facing no financial difficulty to need a $10,000 car, and no church would hang the poster on it's walls. That sounds like a North Korean assumption about what US life is like, not reality.

It's all just tragic.

Yes. Very comforting for his family to able to be with him at his hour of passing.

RIP, Otto, and sincere wishes that his family can take comfort in his peace.

Severe brain damage. They beat him so bad . Terrible and I am so angry! For taking a sign. This will fuel hatred of North Korea for what they did to this innocent kid.

His parents must be devastated. So very sad!!

This world have much evil.

Rest in Peace! I would never willingly go to North Korea and I think the group that organized this trip should be held liable as well.

THAT is a good point. They do it for profit while not disclosing the risks. They also don't tell Americans and other westerners that tourism travel to NK is strongly advised against by their own countries.

He never took the sign.

I think it's important that we acknowledge that he was set up for political reasons. Anything less is giving too much to the North Korean regime.

Personally I'd like to see a few dozen MOABs dropped on his little empire, at which point a team goes over there and takes him out like a hammered piglet.

Not sure if any of you are aware but that little fat boy had his ex-girlfriend and the entire band she played in executed some years back.

It was political. Someone jailed and saying it was for taking a sign?.. 15 years hard labor...

This could have been anyone's son.

Otto should have been able to live out his life with his parents. It is a terrible outcome even though Otto was brought back home.

My heart goes out to Otto's family.

Even for something like espionage, NK's treatment was way, WAY, WAY beyond inhumane. I'm almost certain he was not there for espionage. If he were, NK would have mentioned it. But for a propaganda poster? This is beyond insane.
