The network is not disciplining Bonifield, and CNN editors are treating the comment as Bonifield’s personal thoughts expressed in a non-official capacity, the person said."CNN stands by our medical producer John Bonifield. Diversity of personal opinion is what makes CNN strong, we welcome it and embrace it," CNN said in a statement.
So one of their journalists derisively mocks fundamental journalistic ethics, and they still keep him on the payroll... I think that pretty much says everything we need to know about what CNN thinks of those ethics and the contempt they have for their readers and viewers, the core of whom don't seem to care anyway.

#1, because it isn't all just about business, it's also about ideology. CNN is liberal, and so are most of the other networks. The liberal execs at other networks aren't going to take down their kindrid spirits at CNN.
#2, to cover this wouldn't just cast doubt on the credibility of CNN, but would reflect badly on the news media as a whole, so if other networks did cover this, they'd likely be hurting themselves as well, and it would lend credibility to Trump's claim that the "fake news media" is out to get him ( which they are )

Maybe he is one of Anderson Coopers special friends.
I'm just wondering how much more evidence it's going to take to convince people that media bias toward democrats isn't just a product of conservative's paranoia and fevered imaginations.
* Let's see.... we now have this video which reveals that "Russia collusion" is basically just a ratings generator...
We have the hacked emails which revealed:
* CNN contributor Dona Brazil leaked debate questions to the Clinton Campaign
* That John Podesta invited a bunch of media figures to a dinner in his house
* That media outlets regularly submitted articles to the Clinton Campaign for revisions and approval.
* We have SO MANY "leaked" stories that turned out NOT to be true...... ( people are now surpisingly getting fired over them )
There WAS collusion in the 2016 election.... between the media and Democrats. This isn't just some conservative talking point made up to rile the base. It's real. Couldn't be more real.
This Project Veritas video merely reinforces what a lot of people already strongly suspected about CNN.
Most people who currently like watching CNN will continue to watch CNN. The folks who stopped watching CNN likely did so quite awhile ago. Thus, this Project Veritas thing won't lead to much (if any) meaningful change. The audiences of these cable news channels are too entrenched in their echo chambers.
However...most people that have a lick of sense either don't watch 24-hour cable news (CNN, Fox News, MSNBC) at all, or watch it sporadically and not take it too seriously. They saw cable news for what it really was a very long time ago. Cable news is not news. It's theater, masquerading as news. It's infotainment that tries to play to people's emotions...get them emotionally engaged, and they won't change the channel. The theater that comprises many of their shows is part improv, part choreographed in advance. A fairly bright person can often accurately predict how an entire segment will go before the segment even begins.
It wasn't that long ago (4-5 years ago) that CNN was at least a little bit respectable, and reported the news without a lot of spin. They still had their terrible moments back then...Wolf Blitzer, their coverage of trials like Casey Anthony, their ridiculous coverage of hurricanes, etc. The problem was...back then their ratings were crap, because their style of political reporting was boring to a lot of people. CNN was struggling and had to do something...after all they're a business and gotta make lots of $$$. A lot of cable news watchers in this country WANT their "news" to be spiced up...that stimulates their emotions better than the boring stuff. So to counteract their boring stigma (and compete better with Fox News), CNN had to jazz up their programming and their personalities. Thus, their strategy shift led to a sharp increase of "crossfire" segments, with two people on opposite political sides yelling at each other. It led to some of Don Lemon's crazy moments (e.g. his N-word segment from a couple of years ago). It led to their 10-person panels, moderated by Anderson Cooper or Wolf or John King. It led to them doubling down on media personalities...similar to ESPN's sports media personalities. It led to their female anchors, journalists and pundits dressing a little more provocatively on-air (CNN clearly got that from FNC)..sex sells after all. It led to them sucking up to Obama and the Democrats (and possibly outright colluding with the DNC)...they probably thought this would help them attract a younger audience. It led to them virtue signaling and catering to social justice warriors. It led to their initial FAVORABLE coverage of Trump during the GOP primaries...he's good for ratings and CNN wanted him to be the nominee. It led to them intentionally mixing news and opinion in ways designed to lead the audience down a particular path. It led to them keeping around folks like Kayleigh McEnany and Jeffrey Lord, despite them (especially Lord) saying some outlandish things on air causing a bunch of people to call for their firings...the reality is that Kayleigh and Lord are correctly performing their true job duties, giving CNN what it wants. And it led to CNN's complete 180 on Trump, their Russia coverage and this eventual fabrication of news that led to 3 journalists losing their jobs.
Despite all that...CNN's ratings still aren't very good. Jeff Zucker's strategy has backfired. In addition to their direct competitors...the fact that many people get their news from Facebook/Twitter is also hurting CNN. All of cable news is bad and should be taken with a huge grain of salt, but CNN has gone full psycho and stooped down to almost tabloid levels (e.g. National Enquirer) over the past 1 to 2 years. I think that's a result of desperation on their part.
Mainstream journalism (with the exception of the WSJ and perhaps one or two others...WSJ still does good work) is mostly dead and has been for a long time. Cable news runs all of their coverage through an obvious filter. Honest journalism isn't enough to rake in the big bucks that the CNNs & Fox Newses of the world crave. You may need to dig underground to find the decent investigative journalists.

If you believe that you are not old enough to know that CNN was started by Ted turner a BIG liberal.
And during Bill Clinton's admin it was called the Clinton News Network for a reason. Can you guess what it was?
Understanding our system of Gov. is important..to have a base of knowledge..not sure what it has to do with being informed?
Well, what I mean is that this here is the Politics forum and to be truly informed it is necessary (IMO) to understand the background against which political criticisms, which is what most of the "news" actually is, are made so as to know when the reporters and or politicians and or so-called experts are talking out of their butts.

I do not consider campaign promises to be lies so much as statements of policy that a candidate would like to further.

Definitely call them out on campaign promises that did not come to fruition. But, do so with the knowledge that the opposition may have stymied all attempts, or that Congress as a body just did not go along.

There is no truth.
There are only facts that can be shown to be either true or false. The job of the media is to report the facts.

From what I recall CNN was always the network of plane crashes and disaster coverage. They spent weeks non stop covering that plane that disappeared a couple years back. I am not sure I would call that respectable journalism just sensationalism which is what they have continued with Trump.
For 8 years under Obama they would not dare spin negative stories about him. With Trump they do it for ratings and also it fits the liberal ideology of the network.

Interesting story today on the intercept. I like Greenwalt's observations on all this. He is a left wing guy who tells it as it is.
What hurts CNN's credibility is they pretend to be just reporting the news but have this far left bias. At least FOX and MSNBC don't hide their ideologies. That is why CNN is always buried in 3rd place and has to resort to reporting unreliable sources to get attention. And to anyone defending CNN for getting rid of these 3 staffers. CNN got called out on the story and its factual errors. They had no choice but to deal with it. They have gotten lots of things wrong like saying Comey was going to deny that he told Trump he was not under investigation and no one lost their job for it.
I agree you cannot stop people on the left from watching CNN. Companies that advertise there can be boycotted. What CNN is doing is very bad for this country. They are trying to undermine the government and damage the president. If pressure is put on advertisers they will be forced to back off.
