As for him not cultivating a bench (above post), it really isn't his job to do that. He thought passing a healthcare bill would get more voters as people became dependent on it, but health insurance is not healthcare. My employer-based insurance premiums doubled and unless it is an emergency, there is no way I can afford the deductible for any medical procedure (even necessary though non life threatening ones like physical therapy). That doesn't fix the problem, and it's reduced our income.

I'm sorry, but as de facto head of their party, it most certainly is the "job" of a POTUS to assist, promote or whatever a bench. Local politics long has been about a popularity contest of who was in Washington, D.C. A popular president can be a huge help to down races.

Why do you think POTUS go out and campaign, make recordings for robot calls and otherwise promote members of their own party running in local elections.

Will give you much of this is becoming diluted due to the politics in Washington and or actions of presidents.

For instance it has been decades since a vice-president ran has run for POTUS.

The Democratic base is growing increasingly frustrated with former President Barack Obama’s actions after leaving office, including a seemingly endless tour of millionaire and billionaire luxury retreats, according to Democrats and activists contacted by Fox News.

Ex-presidents, understandably and un-controversially, go on vacations immediately after leaving office. But the level of luxury the Obamas enjoy on their vacations is unprecedented for a modern-day president, say travel experts.

Since leaving office in late January, Obama has visited late actor Marlon Brando’s private island; the Four Seasons in Bali -- where rooms cost upward of $2,000 per night; a Palm Springs estate; Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island; the exclusive Mid Pacific Country Club in Oahu; the 13th-century Borgo Finocchieto in Tuscany; and the Rising Sun, Hollywood studio mogul David Geffen’s private yacht.

"These are some of the most luxurious travel destinations in the world. Many of our clients spend tens of thousands of dollars or more to stay at these resorts, which cater to the most discriminating and demanding guests,” said Kendra Thornton, travel expert and owner of luxury travel agency Royal Travel. “For example, Necker Island has a nightly price tag of $80,000. Anyone who stays at these properties does so because they want the best of the best."

Fox News contacted the Borgo Finocchieto hotel. It’s actually not really a hotel, at least of the kind ordinary travelers come to expect. It’s a restored medieval hamlet with five villas and 22 bedrooms that can only be rented for a three-day minimum, in its entirety. Obama touched down at a nearby airport in a private jet escorted by six Eurofighter jets from the Italian Air Force. Presumably, the former president scored a deal on the stay since the Borgo Finocchieto is owned by one of his appointees, the former Italy Ambassador John Phillips.

Left-wing activists told Fox News they are troubled by what they see as a trend by Obama to distance himself from the base of the party. It’s not just vacations. The president also has enjoyed hefty fees for speeches to prominent Wall Street firms. It’s all part of a trend, they say, of Obama trying to join the fabled 1 percent.
it is a lazy story and frankly nobody on the left gives a care what Obama is doing now that he is an EX potus. as fake news goes it is weak sauce.

Well shouldn't say "no one cares" as there is much press about Obama out there if people care to look.

For instance it was recently reported the Obamas put down eight million to purchase the home in Washington, D.C. they once rented.

Or sometimes we do and the public just overlooks it. Reagan and his vacation home in Rancho del Cielo.

To be fair RR wasn't exactly poor before coming POTUS. In fact the Reagans bought Rancho del Cielo long before moving into the WH: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rancho_del_Cielo

At least in my time/recent memory the only two relatively not well off persons who became POTUS would be Carter, Obama and maybe Clinton.

Why is anyone supposed to care about a private citizen on holiday?

LOL

It just kills you people to see black people living better lives than you do. It literally kills you people.

This thread takes reaching for controversy to a whole new level.
It's just another way to distract. Funny, this morning all (almost) the news was about the FAILED repug health care vote and the news I was listening to remarked that all EXCEPT FOX had that as their headline, while FOX had Obama's vacationing as their top story...LOL. This did NOT go unnoticed, yet OP brings it to the forefront again. SOooooooo funny.

It does, doesn't it?

Ever since they lost the tools used during Reconstruction (and for along time afterwards) to "put and keep blacks in their place" certain people have been eating their hearts out.
