The health insurance lobby wrote this bill, they pay the senators, and they approve.

So, the Pubs will try every trick in the book to cram it through. They'll HAVE TO. Because the billions they cut from health care will be going to the tax cuts they owe the billionaires who finance their campaigns.

See how that works?

Thanks for the laugh. You're so right, the Republicans are no longer the people's party. They are only in power because they cheat, work the system to their advantage and bow to billionaires.

However, ultimately the people who cast the vote have the final say. Hopefully, this time around, they will ignore the nasty ads, lies and propaganda and use their head to vote this time....

I think Republicans approval rating is 35% for those who actually know what's in the bill. I suspect many don't and the approval #s will be lower once they wake up to it.

I wonder how the Republicans' favorite news network Fox News is spinning this bill 'cus I know the Trump administration is outright lying about it. They are coming out saying that there are no cuts to Medicaid. Unbelievable!

I know you are right. Sometimes you just have to be silly.

Truly wicked!

I heard on NPR today that nursing homes already lose money on Medicaid recipients, and this bill cuts Medicaid. So are we closing nursing homes? Where do those people go? If they had somewhere else to go, they wouldn't be in nursing homes.

So there's the humanitarian aspect. But then there's the economic aspect. Less Medicaid, can't afford nursing homes, do nursing homes lay off staff and/or close?

None of this was thought of in the Senate Secret Health Care Bill because they are in such a rush to pass it that they haven't considered its ramifications. I truly believe this bill will cause a recession as billions of dollars are removed from 1/6 of our economy. It's just madness that such a far-reaching bill is being rammed through congress without any consideration of what it would do. The Affordable Care Act took a year and a half to pass. To try to do this before July 4 was insanity, and nothing seems to be changing.

No, I definitely get you. You are correct, I have employer-based Health Insurance, so my employer is subsidizing my premium. I pay around $3,000/year for myself with no spouse or dependents.

The ACA definitely gave people policies that they are paying a lot for that aren't covering much. But this bill does nothing to help them. They will trade bad health insurance for no health insurance. And they will end up in emergency rooms, and due to EMTALA, we will subsidize them anyway.

Take away EMTALA, many if not most hospitals would still provide charity care that we subsidize.

But say we passed this health care bill AND repealed EMTALA AND hospitals refused to provide charity care. Suddenly, only the insured can receive health care. Forget about people dying easily preventable deaths in a supposedly first-world nation. It would be bad for our economy. Suddenly we need fewer doctors, nurses, and hospital support staff. 1/6 of our economy goes into recession which likely leads to the whole economy going into recession.

This is a complicated issue and not something that ever should have been addressed by a secret bill that they introduced one week to vote on the next week.

LOL what fake news? Even most republicans don't even know what's in the bill. And they admit this when interviewed. When you have a few old men behind closed doors deciding the fate of our country's healthcare....it's pretty scary. There are no women involved in this discussion. Why is that. What do these men know about healthcare especially about women's care. They have not included anyone in the healthcare field for input. And you trust them lol

Another thing that is interesting is that, yes, people said during the 2016 election that they wanted a repeal and replace, but Trump told them that he had a plan that would cover everyone for less money. If that is what people voted for, that is not what they're getting with either the House or Senate bill.

Clearly people favor a national health insurance system. ACA has substantial support but some problems that need to be addressed. The GOP is aware that the nation wants a national system but instead of fixing the ACA their priority is to make it a gift -- a cash cow for the wealthy and insurance companies. They only can do that by sacrificing the poor and destroying Medicaid.

Eh, people say they want a national system when they think they will pay the same and have the same access to health care. The reality is you're paying higher taxes and your care is rationed to keep costs down, which is not so popular. It's not the right solution. The right solution would be the ability to buy into Medicaid on the state level with each state determining its own benefit package. Enough "one size fits all." It was wrong when the Democrats did it, and it's really really wrong in the Republican bill.

This bill is legitimately awful and close to passing, and should be the focus of intense debate right now. And nobody wants to talk about it.

Funny, strange times we live in.
There will be no debate. Mitch McConnell has a big slush fund that he will use to buy the votes of any recalcitrant Republicans and they will pass it without one single hour of debate on the Senate floor.

Remember when Republicans whined that they didn't get any input into the ACA, even though it was publicly debated for months in Congress and had over 160 Republican admendments added in? This POS was created in secret in a few weeks and will be voted on with exactly zero debate.

That it will devastate millions upon millions of Americans is of no concern to them. They just want the tax savings they get from stripping Americans of their healthcare so they can give it to the uber wealthy. That's all that matters to them.
