Medical readiness are the key words. Nothing discriminatory about it. Many people have been medically forced out for conditions that came up while already serving too - and for the same reason (medical readiness).

Don't expect the military or the taxpayers to provide hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgery to its actively serving personnel. What is next? boob job?

Well then hold on to your hat, apparently Bradley Manning has been "promised" the military will pay for his sex "confirmation" surgery and so forth once the rest of his little legal troubles are over. IIRC it all may hinge on which way the appeals go to his court martial/if dishonorably discharged.

Mental health requisite for military service is not possible for someone who evades reality to the point of denying the fact of their own gender.

Gee, if Bradley doesn't end up getting it, I wonder if I should feel sorry.......because Bradley won't be the first person lied to over a military contract.

Ie, given the way contracts have worked over the decades, those promises aren't something to hold on to one's hat. There's hope....................

There are between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender troops in the active-duty force of 1.3 million, according the RAND Corp. which conducted a study for the Pentagon on the issue. Of those troops, RAND estimates that between 30 and 140 would like to seek hormone treatment, and 25 to 130 would seek surgery. The estimated annual price tag: $2.4 million to $8.4 million, per year.

Treatment is estimated to cost as much as $50,000 per soldier. Treatment generally moves from counseling to hormone therapy, and in relatively rare cases, gender reassignment surgery. A military doctor must deem the treatment medically necessary.

bold = b.s.

you know it. Plus, let's please not pretend transgender troops are the "best." (Let's stop pretending the military cannot live without them) That money can go somewhere else, screw them if they don't want to serve, kick them all out.

After they get out, they can receive service related disability benefits. No wonder civilians are p*ssed. Even if you are 100% pro military, you know the above is just plain wrong.

Default Trump wants no trans people in the military

As a liberal, I don't really like the fact that someone who puts their life on the line for the country can't identify how they want. They're going overseas and fighting hard for ....America. (I don't really like the fact that we're in the middle east bombing random countries, but...).

On the other hand, I see why he did it. The focus should be on the military, not about "I wanna be a girl so call me Jane instead of Joe" and all of the attention goes to him/her. Not to mention, the Chelsea Manning thing too.

I'm conflicted on this decision. What are your thoughts?

First of all, transexuals are only a tiny minority serving. There's no evidence of they compromise military strategy. This ruling is only a political stunt.

It's really nobody's business. Just more small government in action.

You do you, I'll do me. Why does the small government party refuse to actually govern as conservatives and instead, pander to bible thumpers?
