Not only do I know people that have worked for free, but I know people who have paid for jobs. It's a way to gain experience to put on a resume or to prove yourself to an employer for continued employment.
I just hung up on a friend who said the minimum wage should be $0/hr, same if working or not. So, he seems to think he should be forced to become homeless, and dig rotten food out of neighbors dumpsters, even if a law prevents that. He seems to feel sorry for the people who have only $10 billion.
Is Trump promoting these feelings, or where are they coming from?

And it is not legal! The courts have been consistent in this. Employees must be paid for work unless that work is to the benefit of the employee (e.g. An internship you receive college credit for)
Look, history has shown that capitalism is preferable to socialism. That doesn't mean that capitalism is without its faults.
We need free markets with obvious, common sense regulations. We used to have child labor in this country. We used to have sweatshops. We don't now because those are common sense regulations. The minimum wage is another common sense regulation. But I think $7.25 at a federal level is reasonable. Maybe a modest increase like $9.25 would be appropriate to generate some needed inflation in our economy. In some states with higher cost of living it should be higher.
So if a guy who owns a car wash in a depressed urban area wants to hire 20 local teenagers at $5.00 an hour each, no dice? Better those 20 teenagers remain unemployed & never gain the work experience, reference, learn the habits of showing up on time, open a bank account, etc?

Millions of people work for free (i.e. $0/hour). Look at all the people that are paid a set sallary, but work extra "unpaid" hours.

If you truly care about the poor, set the minimum wage to be $0. If you hate the poor, jack it up as high as you want.
The wage is driven by supply and demand, not by the vile employers.

Firstly, if I am willing to work for less, why shiuld that be anybody's business?
The idea that by passing a law, you can force the employers to pay more is laughable at best. Would you? You wouldn't.

Why would you be against child labor? Do you hate children that much?
Child labor went away because of capitalism not because of government regulations. Take a look at India. How can children make a living when they pass an anti child labor law? They literally eat off the garbage dump. Is that better than child labor? Next option in line would be child prostitution. Is that better?
