We would be better off if the internet didn't exist.

Today's you sit around and punch their keyboard and play with their phones instead of going out and getting some actual exercise to stay fit. Yes, I will admit that I started to be overweight in my 50s and now I could stand to lose 20 to 25 lb to get down to my ideal weight but I'm getting ready to turn 70. I look at the youth today wherever I go and it's pathetic all I see, for the most part, is Fatty's everywhere. I don't care about the information age if you don't have your health you don't have anything of value.

Now if you think everything was perfect in the fifties and sixties it's obvious you weren't alive then either.

Who around these parts besides me remembers polio? In the fifties it was a common killer and tell Jonas Salk came out with his vaccine. I remember going to the local high school with the rest of the family, I believe it was around 1958 or 59 but I'm not sure, and each of us getting a free sugar cube.

And then we had the 60's and Vietnam brought to us by Lyndon Johnson the leader of the Democratic Party. In this war over 50,000 Americans died with many of us being drafted and I was among them. Spent a year of my tropical vacation northwest of Saigon and I remember celebrating the first week the killed in action casualty figure dropped below 100 just before I was ready to return home. That sometimes, this was 1968, the KIA figure was 300 and 400 a week. That's a week not a month. Can you imagine that happening today?
Smartphones make me go out more. From googling destinations to geocaching and GPS I have the sum of the worlds knowledge at my fingertips. As for lazy people, live your own life and stop worrying about how others live theirs. Stop reading stories and making gut emotional reactions like "the world is going to hell" because its not.... Its all in your head.

Very sad.

Thankfully, they will die off soon enough and we can at least try to fix some of the **** that they've produced.
How old are you, and what exactly has your generation done. The only think I can think of is that you don't communicate by voice anymore..... text is your form of communication now. I can't imagine how awkward is it is for you to actually talk to someone in person. Or how about interviews for jobs. And what exactly do you want to fix.

Because maybe you are one of the people who fixes it.

I agree, our society has become a mess. Both sides scream infantile insults at each other and focus on stupid bathroom issues when we, the strongest and richest country on earth, could be working together and becoming even stronger, smarter, and more prosperous. It can be maddening.

But I believe I am part of the solution and that sustains me.

The 1990's were the height of human civilization, everything before was "building up to it", everything after was "on the slippery slope down". Anyone who denies this or disagrees with my assessment is just coping or trying to cope, it's the TRUTH. Cold war was over, so no "boogeyman" in the background, and smartphones did not exist (and cell phones were rare) so the social fabric, relationships, families, people's social skills, etc were still intact. It was the perfect "blend" of everything and very well-balanced.

The smartphone was the single most influential development of the last 17 years, and has had the most negative impact on society imo, everything is fake now including vast majority of people. Society has just gone to crap ever since the smartphone was introduced. Things like Facebook have similarly had a negative impact on society. "Flaking", "plastic" or fake people, ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, bad/inattentive drivers, narcissism, attention-seeking, and general rudeness are also way up post-smartphones/social media.

LOL!!! That's French for "I just don't like him."

Trump is more of a man and more adult than Obama could ever be. It's great to have a real man as our President again.

They hated Reagan for the same reasons they hate Trump ...he got in the way of their Liberal agenda. He saw right through them. Reagan knew what they were up to ...he knew they were nothing but socialists. So does Trump.

And there you have it! Reagan was "semi-senile." Just what I have been saying all along ...you people said the same things about Reagan that you are saying about Trump. That tactic didn't work then, and it isn't going to work now.

Trump knows your game and he turns it against you. You are falling for it. I love it!

Please don't tell me that I am only feeling nostalgia or having rose-colored glasses. It's very frustrating and painful to watch society go downhill in 2017. It's very painful and frustrating to see people in society being more unfit and unhealthy than they were in 1980s (referencing another posted thread). I don't feel like I can escape these problems of society. I would even say it's collectively unfair to my own generation, the only generation who will be worse off than their parents.

I for one wish we can be healthy and exercise, and be a fit society again, without having to resort to quick fixes or fancy technology about it. It's making effort obsolete and turning society into lazy people. Back in the 80s there was still smoking, but at least people back then spoke up against it. People are too afraid to speak up against anything today, including obesity. I think the only option left is collective rebellion against the rest of society. I hate not being able to speak my mind without someone else being offended. I hate those who preach about those who complain about PC are devils. And I mean hate. Why can't anybody say they HATE them/it? Somebody has to, and it's about time.

The other funny thing about the above is that those (mostly liberals) say they want the government to intervene in our decisions to help curb away this epidemic. Yet, they aren't saying anything about shaming obesity and are instead acting the opposite.

Having the speech police monitor whatever you say or think about any group (unhealthy/obese, homosexual, etc.) is worse than actual discrimination.

Sometimes, it makes me not want to grow up anymore than I have. What's the point of enjoying it when society is going into decline or collapse?

Good to see the next Generation has been Red Pilled, by the horrific experience of other people thinking for them.

Reagan didn't "trip" or "trigger." Reagan did not demand loyalty, he conferred loyalty.
I think you picked the wrong verb, but there is nothing wrong with demanding loyalty from someone who is supposed to be serving under your command. In fact. it is what holds the military together. That's why Boe Bergdahl was no hero. He was not loyal. He is a traitor.

When I served in Vietnam, Lyndon Johnson was President. I thought he was an ass. But he was the Commander in Chief. I didn't desert because of my personal views of Johnson (of course that would have been difficult, since I was on a ship).
