They think not liking someone is grounds for impeachment.

Their emotions overwhelm any logic.

Yah, my friend's wife loves the series and claims it's "so scary" because it's "right around the corner."

I didn't know a lot about it so I asked her to explain. After she did, I summed up by saying, "so it's basically like Sharia Law." This did not go down well!

I can hardly stand the woman anyway, though -- huge authoritarian central planning fan. She's totally okay with the state being in charge of everything *as long as it's secular.*

I don't think she explained it well at all. While I see a parallel between sharia and HT, in that men attempt to control women's bodies and choices, HT really comes down to the commodification of human life. I think that is where the parallel with Trump's America lies.

Please explain further what you're getting at. Use examples.

And please, if you could, refrain from helter-skelter absurdism about how you're sick with terror that the proverbial sky is falling.

The Handmaid's Tale has long been likened to the Republican party, even by Margaret Atwood herself.

True, but in Trump's world all (young) women are potential Hookers. Old women can die for all he cares.

The story could be D or R since with exception of minor differences both love big govt. running lives

I don't see the Democratic Party mandating women cannot work and biblical scripture being read allowed as a woman is forced to have sex with a man in order to procreate. I don't see the Democratic Party dehumanizing women as nothing more than baby incubators.

I heard this ridiculous story brought up when the Republicans re-took the House of Representives in 1994. I heard it again in 2000 (it was going to be our future if we elected President Bush). So now this is sure-fire guaranteed to be coming our way if we don't put the Democrats in power in 2018? Or don't put a Democrat in the White House in 2020?
