Under President Trump more Americans and actually people in the rest of the world are tuning in to follow politics around the world.
The amount of people who just watch to see what is happening in America and are/were believing what the mainstream media liars were saying, actually brought in more viewers than before.
Therefore more viewers are now witnessing the unraveling of lying left wing media as tweets from world leaders are seen all over the world and have shown the lies of the media.
In the end it is good to see that whatever your thoughts are, that more people are watching it listening to politics as it affects everyone at some point in their life.
Hollywood actors have been proven to be empty suits, dresses, etc. and shown for what they are. Humans who can act to be someone else but not act to let us to believe that we have to listen to people who often have not had a day of normal life like the middle class are dealing with in a daily base. Hollywood actors live with security guards with weapons and spending money like none of us will experience in our life, while acting like they know how our daily life's are lived.
CNN is also seen in Europe with all their proven lies and being disposed as the fake news channel.
Poland now has adopted "Make Poland Great Again"
Holland has recently got "Make the Netherlands Great Again" and hat party went to the second largest party.
Other countries are following and many citizens of these countries are slowly speaking their mind.

These times are different but the same. You were not asleep during the Obama years. Many of us felt he was more destructive to the US than Trump will ever be.
Look at the damage Obama did to the Democrat party.
You have a right to feel whatever you want; that doesn't make the feelings reality. Trump has already seriously damaged our reputation in other countries and his popularity in the US is atrocious for a new president. Whatever your sentiments for Obama, he was widely respected by world leaders, as was George Bush.
Politics these days has more sex and violence, betrayal, intrigue, and humor than any daytime or nighttime soap opera ever produced. The Press hypes every plot twist, imbuing villain and savior characters with devious or righteous intentions. Politics is the best show on TV or in Print. People tune in each day to see what will happen next!
The election of Donald Trump was a wake-up call across the planet. It forced a lot of people who were apathetic to sit up and take notice. Contrary to the OP's assessment of that increased awareness, it's not necessarily good for Trump. The world on the whole loathes him. They see him for what he is, and they are understandably concerned. That's why they are suddenly paying attention.

how do you know it is sudden? Many americans have protested our current wars for over a decade. around my way there were protesters every weekend for years. they became a fixture, it did no real good but at least it kept it in people's minds.

Actually they are following the antics of a populist ego-maniacal buffoon, Trump and his followers are apolitical in nearly every way. He is surely no conservative, and he is surely no liberal. He's useless to anyone but himself, he would not know a political principle or platform if it slapped him upside his orange coiffured cranium.
It's interesting that most of this thread seems to be just people shouting "fake news" at each other. Naturally, those people have been "intersted" in politics for a while. But their voices are getting louder and normal people can no longer ignore the nutters.
