OP trying to turn a horrific beating at a bar at 3AM into some political reasoning is one of the saddest posts I've read around here in a long time.
It's right up there with a bird pooping on my car and having a neighbor saying..."the bird must be upset with the election!"
WTH is wrong with some of you.
I thought that was pretty strange too. If that were even remotely the case, there'd be hundreds of Americans killed all over Europe every week. We don't know why a bunch of thugs beat this young man to death but I doubt politics played any role in it.
Go to a foreign country and start a fight. Not very smart.
Americans seem to think nothing can happen to them in foreign countries, but that isn't the case. Yes, Americans have dollars, but that doesn't give you the right to insult other people simply because they have more money. Unless you are a millionaire or billionaire who can afford bodyguards and an armed escort, then you shouldn't try to provoke people. In the later, case your more likely to get sued, but at any rate you pay the price one way or another sooner or later.

Please. Same crap happens to American citizens in the USA. Check the statistics.

Yeah, the snakes are slithering back under their partisan rocks as we speak.....
In the sense that this could have been ANY 22 year old tourist from ANY country who when under the influence of alcohol or anything else, was summarily murdered; they had better investigate and prosecute with vigour or suffer the loss of tourism dollars they can ill afford now.
Too much has been made of his behaviour in conjunction with him being an American. Greece has no choice but to treat this as a young foreigner being mercilessly beaten to death by a gang of criminals.
All of this "he was American so must have asked for it by behaving badly" is utter nonsense.
Maybe brush up on your geography a bit, eh? Greece isn't a part of the Middle East. And it's the European Union's polices that are causing havoc in that part of the world.
I am aware of my geography. It is not their policies . It is our policies. Libya was the bottle neck in northern africa . The country actually held back all those refugees for years. Gadaffi even said "Europe will turn black" once I'm gone. Not to mention Obama creating the civil war in Syria....
In time, Greece and italy will be the northern tip of the middle east.
