“There are no black people on Game of Thrones. You don’t see one black person in Lord of the Rings,” Boyega told GQ, though Game of Thrones features several characters of color — several of them slaves turned soldiers called the Unsullied — two of which, Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) are season regulars and fan favorites.
“I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen,” Boyega added. “Because you see different people from different backgrounds, different cultures, every day. Even if you’re a racist, you have to live with that. We can ruffle up some feathers.”
would you also feel uncomfortable not seeing your race on screen? Is the quality of the show or movie enough to forget it?
The show is meant to resemble 15th century medieval Europe. Where exactly would a black character fit in besides slaves? A black king or noble family would not be very believable in that era. Maybe they could replace the white walkers with black walkers? Seriously, what do they expect?
Actually, I can think of at least two major black characters in Game of Thrones -- the Captain of the Unsullied and his girlfriend. They appear through most of at least a couple of seasons.
If the author of the story didn't write in people of color, why change the story to have people of color?
I love Will Smith movies, Hancock being one of my favorites. As much as I enjoy Will's talent, I would be annoyed if they used Will Smith to play Thor. Vikings weren't people of color.
They used a black man to play Roland in the Dark Tower. Roland wasn't black in the books. I'll watch the movie anyway, but why did they opt for a black actor?
I think they should use people of color to reflect our diversity, but not to just be PC. If the story calls for it then do it.
American Idol and Bachelor franchise were sued by blacks for lack of black contestants.
But in the end the more blacks the less viewers as black people didnt seem to turn in as much

It's a fantasy (doesn't really follow a historical setting/time). HALF of the setting is clearly influenced by medieval Europe. The other HALF of the setting (Kalisi's kingdom) is clearly Middle East/Africa AND THERE ARE BLACK CHARACTERS.
I'm not sure why Boyega is complaining and has obviously not watched the show because he is spreading lies by saying there are NO black characters in GoTs.
