That's all true. Plus, the NFL seemed like it was increasingly becoming like the WWE instead of playing football on Sundays.

I also realized how little of a 3+ hour game is actual playtime; only about eleven real time minutes of that is the ball in play.

Some loony leftist acquaintances of mine on social media are praising the ratings decline as proof that Americans are backing the national anthem protests They are too daft to see that the bulk of the boycott is in retaliation to the anthem protests, not in support of the protests.

The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason.
The thing that bothers me with this study is that they didn't seek out people who have stopped watching. So these results aren't really informing us of people so disgusted that they HAVEN'T attended a game, and are now watching few to no games.

Watching 'fewer games' could be for any number of reasons.

I hate studies like this because they appear to imply something that cannot really be properly concluded.

The National Anthem in most countries is reserved for when the countries National Teams are playing and even then it's only ususally plated in International Competitions. At the National Level it is an hounour to play for your country, so boycotting the anthem would just mean the end of your international career, simple as that, as you would never ever be chosen to represent your country again.

In terms of a Football (Soccer) match the clubs own anthem will be played, with a raft of famous anthems across Europe, such as Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone', Manchester City's 'Blue Moon', Man United 'Glory, Glory', Cheslsea's 'Blue is the Colour', Newcastle United's 'Blaydon Races'/ 'Local Hero', Southampton's 'When the Saints Go Marching In', West Ham's 'I am forever Blowing Bubbles' etc etc. The same is true of many other club s across Europe, where the Club Anthem and Emblem takes precdent in fixtures, and woe betide anyone mocking the clubs anthem or emblems.

The other main sport where anthems are plated is Rugby, however even Rugby and Cricket have adopted their own anthems such as England Rugby's adoption of 'Swing Low, Sweet Charity' or England Cricket 'Jerusalem'.

wells said. and while i am one fo the diehard fans of the sport, and still watch it even despite the rabid commercialism infesting the games, it still annoys me the amount of commercialism content going on today.

and what is really annoying is the same damned old commercials over and over again. at least throw a little variety in the mix. for instance dont just advertise the same beer, or the same vehicle time after time.

If you crunch the numbers, that amounts to 3% of respondents. Knowing what we know about these sorts of calls (that elderly people are most likely to participate), i'm not surprised that a handful of old bigots would stop watching football because of Kaepernick.
One of those old bigots is my husband who lost part of his body serving his country overseas. He refuses to watch or support any team that has kneelers, which pretty much boils down to no longer watching football at all. I don't mind, that's for sure. Oh, did I mention that he has a far darker complexion than Colin Kaepernick?

None of our 20/30 y/o relatives watch football. They might have a SuperBowl party, but that's about it.

Whereas the old farts will be planted in front of the TV now for months.
Those old farts are also much more likely to mind someone kneeling during the anthem as a method of protest. My husband certainly minds more than my sons. My husband also used to watch more football on TV than my sons.
