Obama, for all of his faults (and I'll certainly never claim he was perfect - hell, I doubt HE would claim that), at least didn't take to Twitter and pour gallons upon gallons of fuel. He certainly didn't agree with everyone, but he knew how to talk to people who didn't agree with him (most of the time). Even if he played politics, as all politicians did, he did genuinely seem interested in at least hearing the other side. And he respected people's free speech, even if that speech disagreed with his or his party's opinions.
Honestly - this isn't a high bar here, either. Most presidents were this way. Trump is the outlier.
I've never seen a politician as divisive as Trump. And after he leaves, I doubt we will for a long time.
Because Trump isn't a politician! He's telling it like it is - yes it'd be great if these players were let go and contracts not renewed. Everyone thinks they are afraid because of the loss of talent - but no one is irreplaceable.
Obama's and Loretta's acceptance of the violence that erupted in Ferguson - the Fry Em like Bacon chants was reprehensible.
I can see why NFL players would be concerned about police brutality seeing as they get arrested on an almost weekly rate. Issues like this really hit home for these guys. As fans we need to see life through their eyes, walk a mile in their shoes. I know that if I was a violently aggressive, coked out, roided up millionaire and I was beating my wife I wouldn't want the cops to show up and rough me up.
So disappointing. I liked your post up until the last line.
If nothing else, the fact that many of these guys do achieve the dream and still sell drugs, engage in criminal activity, etc. should show the masses that many of these issues in poor, urban communities go deeper than how much money someone makes.
Wonderful article - I still want to know what good is coming out of the kneeling? Don't tell me it's raised people's awareness - because it's all that's been talked about for the last 8 yrs.
Like the election - people will say what they think other people want to hear so as not to get into a fight rather than tell the truth. A lot of this kneeling is being done not because those kneeling actually feel the way the original kneelers did but no one wants to be on the outside looking in so join in to fit in - depending on which way the wind is blowing.
