Do tell...what does "unamerican" mean, exactly?

Is eating ethnic food "unamerican"? Listening to different kinds of music? Attending a non-Christian religious ceremony? Is not caring about Football (or liking some other sport) "unamerican"?

You are aware that "American" is an amalgamation of a multitude of cultures from all over the world, yes?

We sure love Pizza - but we didn't invent it. It has become part of the current "American Zeitgeist", but it wasn't always. Should we have damned these Italian immigrants and forced them to "assimilate"? Or was it OK just in that one instance? And if that was OK for those particular people, why do you think people entering our country today should be held to a different standard?

These assimilation issues resolve with time. Spend time in a place that has a lot of immigrants, or descendants of recent immigrants (e.g. California). Second, third, fourth (etc.) generation Americans are as "American" as they come. Maybe their parents also speak a different language better than English (ahem...American!!!), but they are just as American as you and me.

Nothing is unique about this period of time - these kind of issues have existed for as long as we have been letting in people from other parts of the world.

There are un-American values in some cultures. For examples: women are less than men and aren't allowed the same rights as men, certain people are a lower caste of human by virtue of birth, practice the State sanctioned religion or be imprisoned or worse.

And we have laws to take care of people violating these core principles. It seems like we don't really need to "do" anything.

So I guess the people who run Fox News and some bro-culture techie companies like Uber are un-American.

And the white supremacists who harass people of color and Muslims are un-American.

I totally agree with you here.

American culture isn't hot dogs or football. Americans have many expressions in our diverse population of individual traditions and beliefs. Our American cultural is our shared values.
The above is absolutely 100% correct.

It's also 100% irrelevant.

Because of all the subcultures that have evolved in America they all have one thing in common......love of country, being an American first and not a hyphenated American.

The fact is there are certain cultures and traditions in the world that are not compatible with living life as an American.

And there is a certain mindset in the progressive left that intentionally downplays the importance of loving your country, regardless of your ethnicity and American subculture.

Many cultures make up America.

But not all cultures are capable of melting into the melting pot......nor should they.
