You can be sure this is a prelude to Trump expanding the war (or even, re-starting the war) in Afghanistan. Remember all those Trumpets who criticized Obama's Middle East wars?

Trump Says U.S.‘Losing’ Afghan War in Tense Meeting With Generals
Quote:
... During the July 19 meeting, Trump repeatedly suggested that Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford replace Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, because he is not winning the war, the officials said. ...

Over nearly two hours in the situation room, according to the officials, Trump complained about NATO allies, inquired about the United States getting a piece of Afghan’s mineral wealth and repeatedly said the top U.S. general there should be fired...

NBC + Anonymous Sources = Fake News.

They have made it up. Not one person is cited on the record as confirming that any of this is true. Rest is opinion given by that "journalist".

Oh don't worry, it'll eventually make the Washington Times, Fox News and even Breitbart when it becomes more obvious. And when that happens it's gonna be really fun ridiculing the Trump Cultists who are currently in denial about it.

Trump Finds Reason for the U.S. to Remain in Afghanistan: Minerals
Quote:
President Trump, searching for a reason to keep the United States in Afghanistan after 16 years of war, has latched on to a prospect that tantalized previous administrations: Afghanistan’s vast mineral wealth, which his advisers and Afghan officials have told him could be profitably extracted by Western companies.

Mr. Trump has discussed the country’s mineral deposits with President Ashraf Ghani, who promoted mining as an economic opportunity in one of their first conversations. Mr. Trump, who is deeply skeptical about sending more American troops to Afghanistan, has suggested that this could be one justification for the United States to stay engaged in the country.

Remember all the Obama supporters NOT condemning his wars? (It would be an expansion, you can't re-start what never ended)

Both are bastards that need to rot in hell.

well it would seem to fit in neatly with Trump's lets help the uber wealthy policies so far... ie dumping ash into rivers to increase profits while not impacting jobs at all. Or Trump's attempts to kill the fudiciary rule at birth. Or Trump's utter gutting of the FCC and removing price caps on monopoly ISPs (ie no competitor use to mean a cap on price, Trump killed that so that in rural areas with only 1 ISP they are now free to raise prices as they wish)

seems to me trump is all about filtering monies Up UP and away from the average american, so why not send troops to some corner of the globe in order to secure mining rights for one or three of his coastal elite friends.

You bet! If we can't get into a nuclear war with N. Korea, there's always Afghanistan. Our president* - always on the lookout for the best interests of the American people. NOT!
