Yep...it'll take creativity & saying no to 39 different special interest groups. We'll see what they come up with.
You keep saying "he", some presidents are stuck with the hand they are dealt, he was handed a bad situation and we are in better shape now. No he didn't cut spending but then again congress controls the budget no the president and they couldn't agree on anything. The republicans control everything including the state level, so let's see the plan. It doesn't bode well that they are on recess now and need to reach agreement by November. Hopefully they will come up with something significant rather than food stamps and foreign aid.

The Congress will do what it's done in the past: deliver a clean debt ceiling bill working with Democrats. HFC will yell & scream impotently into the darkness.

They already passed a budget. They can try again with their next one.

If wiping out the deficit is a priority, then the President can veto any deficit-spending budget that reaches his desk. I won't hold my breath. It's not going to happen: Trump wants higher military spending. He would be insane to advocate cutting SS & Medicare. The Republicans won't be interested in raising taxes. Taken together, there will be more deficit spending.

I am hoping that this will be more than the usual, there are serious problems they need to cut spending and raise taxes to get out of this hole.

Debt as a percentage of GDP is what we need to look at.

Health care costs must come down. That is what will drive up deficits.

I would expect the debt level to be raised, there is no upside to not raising the ceiling. There is no upside, if they don't like the debt the balance the budget. The GOP controls everything, rejecting the cap would be embarrassing,

There was a debt ceiling crisis in 2011. And the sky didn't fall.

when bush43 was in office having debt was very bad, when obama took office and started spending like a drunken sailor, the debt was good, now that trump is in office debt is bad again. at least to liberals. for us fiscal conservatives, we have been pushing for balanced budgets, lower spending, etc. and every time we do the liberals scream to high heaven about how the poor will suffer as a result. well let me remind you liberals that the republicans reformed one welfare program, and poor people didnt starve and die off, and the budget was actually reduced.

They shut down government over the debt ceiling and came up with the Budget Control Act with automatic spending cuts, that has been a complete failure. So 6 years later nothing has changed.

Bush 43 created the deficit we have today. Here's a real opportunity for all those "fiscal conservatives" to show us how it works or stop complaining about the democrats. They control everything so let's see how they cut into SS, Medicare and the military to come up with a balanced budget.
