Thanks to Trump's intemperate mouth, North Korea is now the object of world wide sympathy and the US is seen as a bully. China is taking advantage of that by appearing calm and working for a peaceful solution. If if comes to fisticuffs, which it won't as the stakes are too high, China will side with North Korea along with most of the rest of the world.

One of the silliest things I've heard on this forum lately. It is not.

The only one feels sorry for N.K. is probably Rosie O'Donnell.

Who would take over the rule of NK? I don't think China wants to deal with it.

well, if NK attacked Guam, that would be my prediction.

Maybe you should follow the dialogue. Just a thought.

No, china stated very clearly to everyone that, if the North Koreans attacks the us first, china will remain neutral as the us exact revenge on NK. But if the us attacks NK first, then china will intervene in the NK's behalf against the us. Its' essentially the adult trying to give a time out to both fat kim and looney trump.....

China has no option but to side with the US
China wants to maintain the status quo on the Korean peninsula.

Kim keeps prodding the US, SK and Japan, all competitors with China. By propping up Kim, they keep their rivals off balance and preoccupied with his daffy rhetoric.

I think their big nightmare would be Korea re-unified, because it would likely put a vibrant capitalistic economy right on their border and that's something they desperately want to avoid. SK, Japan, and Taiwan are already economic grief enough for those commies. The last thing they want is one more economic powerhouse on their doorstep. A belligerent but economically dependent NK keeps China's rivals conveniently troubled.

So, no. China will not "side with the US" beyond some weak lip service, which is all they ever do. NK is their pit bull on a loose leash and they like it that way. Besides, they know that this whole tRump vs Kim show is nothing more than posturing. And tRump will fall for it time and again as he desperately tries to change the narrative away from his Russiagate troubles.

Default China is not our ally

The Chinese spokesman was clear..if NK attacked the US..China would remain neutral..if the the US and SK attacked NK with the goal of regime change..or to change what he termed "the political pattern of the region"..they would support North Korea. In fact, the quote was that China would "prevent" the US and South Korea from effecting military change in the region.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...c92_story.html

“China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten U.S. soil first and the U.S. retaliates, China will stay neutral,” it added. “If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so.”

So, at best China is neutral--if we strike first...they will side with North Korea.

Russia gave the same warning concerning Syria. We ignored that.
