If you want a Confederate statue in your backyard, that's your right. There likely are some great ones available now at a bargain price.
There's a vast difference between your rights and the defense of public statuary honoring an oppressive and racist leadership that inflicted great loss of life among millions of ancestor families while enslaving millions of others of our ancestors.

Yah, the pious concern about the Confederate flags would be funny, except that as Grant & Sherman marched through the South, the Confederate legislature was still trying to figure out which of the various national flags & battle flags to choose for the ultimate time (they ran through 5 or 6 designs, as I recall). The entire risible history is @ Wikipedia, or any good source that you prefer. The Stars & Bars was the battle flag of a couple of Confederate units, the Virginia regulars, as I recall. I don't think the Confederate legislature ever got around to picking the national battle flag.
The symbols of America? Well, maybe of the US of A. I think we've done well in terms of living up to many of the promises enshrined in the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution. But opinions vary. & yes, republics are far messier than say, a Fascist Italian state or Nazi German state. Book burning was a passion for the Nazis, & possibly the Soviets. I don't recall if the Fascists went in for that kind of thing or not.

These hysterical rants from conservatives over removing confederate memorials on public land is too funny.
They remind me of their reaction when gay marriage was being debated. Remember their shrill warnings that men will start marring their dogs, horses and daughters? I suppose it should come as no surprise that extremists will always use their twisted logic to predict absurd situations that will never come to pass...
