Fine by me. I prefer public art of a non-political nature.

Please PM me for my mailing address if you are so offended by Washington and Jefferson "tributes" in our society. I'll be glad to take all of your currency off your hands that depict these two men.

Likening this to confederate status is ridiculous weak sauce.
Mmmmm.....in fairness there has been a push against Jefferson in particular but Washington is untouchable (for now).

To be honest, it's a valid point. Jefferson even got one of his slaves pregnant.

Connecticut Dems remove Thomas Jefferson from dinner name over slavery | TheHill
Jefferson wasn't treasonous to his own country.

Maybe we can add a Mussolini, Ho Chi Mihn, and Saddam Hussein monuments to the Robert E Lee ones. All were enemies of the United States.

You are going to see the armed Oath Keepers, stationed 24/7 in front of these monuments, to protect them.
They better tear them all down within the next week, because someone is going to catch a round, if they try to destroy history.

If you parse my statement you'll notice the words "legitimate" and "widespread". Sure, there are people that might want this. But it's not a movement that has any chance of getting that. Come on people, do you guys really think this is something that will happen? Really????

Comparing this to the Confederate statues is a weak argument. There is a lot more to those statues than just those people having owned slaves. If people think it's just because they owned slaves, then they're not paying very much attention.

We absolutely should remove the less important figures, especially those that swore to the Confederacy. Washington and Jefferson were too important of the development of this country, even though some might disagree with what they founded. Even though our country seems so rotten to the core at times, we strive to follow those founding principles.

No one is touching these statues, and we don't need vigilante "Oath Keepers" to do so. Good lord - get a grip.

The mother of all Tiki Torch marchers is the Statue of Liberty. That beaoch needs to be pulled down and drowned in the water. No trace of its history should remain if it satisfies the Liberal Democrat Taliban.

Yes.
If the argument for removing the confederate monuments is that confederates were bad because they supported slavery then any monument representing anyone who participated in the institution of slavery should be removed. I am not hearing it was because part of the reason the confederates tried to secede from the union was they supported the institution of slavery as an economic means but that owning/supporting slavery was bad and offensive. Jefferson and Washington owned slaves.

I would also suggest that other monuments/historical sites that depict oppression, discrimination, and injustices and may offend any other group of peoples that have been the target of our ancestors racism, sexism or fear mongering during the history of the USA also be removed such as the trail of tears, little bighorn the Manzanar. These celebrations of the atrocities that were done to groups of people, Native Americans and Japanese Americans due to their race should be eradicated from our memories.
