you want to bet? One removal leads to another and another and so on. Of course it is an attempt to turn it into a widespread movement.
It is nonsense and not a legitimate movement BECAUSE it is NOT the same thing. This is really not a difficult concept to understand, but I'll expand:
Civil War statues are offensive NOT just because their leaders owned slaves. They are offensive because they DEFENDED slavery and did so in the most treasonous way possible. Also - to add more to the offensiveness of them, they were erected AFTER the war was fought...why were we erecting statues of treasonous leaders who were fighting to defend a horrific practice?
When you realize that, you see these statues as symbols/celebrations of hatred, bigotry, and slavery. You don't see that? Well...good for you. But other people do. And they have voted to have them removed from their cities.
These Civil War statues represent people that were WILLING to fight and die to protect slavery. If you can't see the difference between someone like Lee and someone like Jefferson, then you are being obtuse.
The majority of people can understand and grasp this simple difference. And they are not calling for the removal of Jefferson/Washington memorials.
The Confederate statues are easy marks. Public opinion either supports it or the MSM overwhelmingly supports/will threaten those who oppose it.
Once the Confederate statues are all down they will begin to move to the Revolutionary War era monuments...monitoring public opinion as they move along.
The left pundits are talking about digging up the Confederate soldiers buried in Arlington Cemetery.
