Not to mention an statue base all on it's own is not very pleasing to look at. Why not just remove the base as well and plant a tree?
Nah, the plaque makes for historical context. No problem there.

John F. Kennedy

Astronaut John H. Glenn
Astronaut M. Scott Carpenter
Astronaut Buzz Aldrin
All of the astronauts that died when the Challenger exploded in 1986.
Harry S. Truman
Earl Warren
Cesar Chavez
All the members of the 442nd Infantry Regiment. They deserve statues in their honor far more than Confederates ever did. These were Americans of Japanese descent who served this country, during a time when America didn't love them back.
The soldiers who built the Alaska-Canada Highway. They braved a semiarctic climate. And the Black soldiers were doing this as part of a segregated united, being treated like crap.
Put a statue of Rachel Carson in the most prominent vacated location. A one-time student at Johns Hopkins and Maryland resident, Carson was a champion of the oceans, now threatened by ocean acidification, and such a major part of Baltimore's identity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Carson

Not to mention that the environmental policies of Trump and the Republicans likely will ensure the inundation of Baltimore within several decades, a state of affairs that certainly would have incurred the condemnation of this giant of environmentalism.

Baltimore should choose life, not death and oppression among those it chooses to honor.

Good for Baltimore. Traitors & bigots should not be celebrated.

As luck would have it, the slave states (don't whine - that is what they called themselves) wrote down their reasons. And yes, slavery was the core issue. (Some of the more lukewarm secessionist states just wanted be on the winning side, admittedly.)

The southern states were not traitors as you suggest
They took up arms against the United States. That's one of them definition thingies.

You really need to look at this in the time frame when it happened...
We are. Slavery was the most fought-over political subject in the mid-19th century America. As new territories were added, the slave states grew increasingly desperate to make them pro-slavery - because they were full aware that time was against them, and that they would be in the minority. The stage rehearsal known as bleeding Kansas made that abundantly clear. And so, when the slave states could no longer use the Federal government to force their peculiar institution on other states, they grew a sudden liking for states' rights.

I doubt anybody cares because with a city so unsafe no one would have ever seen them anyway. Same as New Orleans. We visited there once and came back with our lives so no reason to ever go back there. We can also add parts of Tampa, Florida to that list as well as St. Louis, New York City, and Chicago. Some cities make the hair raise up on the back of your neck.

They won't do this in cities with a large black population, they know what awaits them. So they'll go to the areas where it's more nazi friendly. But we'll meet them there too, until they're purged.

^^^^^This^^^^^

Can you really do damage to a city who's own residents don't care about? Who cares what the citizens of Baltimore do. You are the ones rioting, looting, burning down local businesses. What does a little monument matter. Oh, except the monument of the thug Michael Brown. Protect that with your lives. What a shining example of idiocy in a city.

Look up Toledo,OH. Neo-Nazis marched into a Black neighborhood in Toledo. And then a riot took place. This is what I know about Neo-Nazis. They are often young, violent men.

Moderate Independent here. Hater of all things Trump but not a fan of the other party either.

And Major Art lover. I hope they don't destroy these works of art. Its not like you go to Michael's and buy a mold for these.

Someone made them. Its not an easy job. You make an error and the whole thing is throw out. Watch on you tube on how a bronze is made.

We had a civil war in this country, its part of our history.

I can see the other side where they might be a bad reminder of something.

No I have no solutions. Take them down but please don't destroy them. Put them in storage while things are heated and during this administration. Is there a confederate museum? Then they wouldn't be on display for all to see.
