But you're right that no one in the new testament, including jesus, says that slavery should be abolished. For them, it was just the way of the world.
And for the confederate soldiers, it was the tail end of that world, but still the world of their time. I am willing to bet many of the people who fought for the conferacy didn't believe in slavery but did it anyway because of their sense of honor and loyalty to their states.
They weren't right. but they were products of their time. I feel like our future descendants will believe in things that would seem ridiculous to us, and we will be vilified for it.
This whole argument makes no sense. Charlottesville was removing the statue from PUBLIC property and was planning on selling the statue not destroying it. So you confederate and traitor honoring people can still have your statues and monuments, but us taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for it.

Well, I have long known that other civilizations have had slavery. Indeed, I don't recall Jesus speaking out against it.
The Southern Baptist Convention had split with the Northern Branch in 1845, since the Northern Branch was against slavery, the Southern Branch was for it.
Ancient history, right? Well, the Southern Baptist Convention did not get around to renouncing its views on slavery until 1995.
So! Not only should we ignore the First Amendment and start tearing down Mosques, but I have my eye on quite a few Southern Baptists churches that should likewise be torn down.
Heck, even Haiti abolished slavery in 1804.
Did Jesus have Slaves like Mohammad? Did Jesus kill his neighbors like Mohamad? Did Jesus marry and rape a 9 year old girl like Mohamad? Touche' As an Atheist I thank dog that this country was founded Christians or we would not have the society we have today! For instance look at the thousands of gay friendly churches compared with the non-existent gay friendly mosques in this country.
If we were founded by Muslims we would be a S-hole Islamic Republic like Saudi Arabia or Iran decapitation gays and killing Appostates. Of course Leftist Appologists should practice what they preach and Joyfully move to Saudi or Iran if they think there is some equivalency between these religians
