At the moment the removal perpetuates belief in mob violence as a venue to getting what is wanted.
Exactly. The fact there is little to no accountability for rioting, violence, and destruction, the LEFT has become emboldened, and will continue to use violence, intimidation, and the Media to take advantage of other things many, if not most people want. In fact the Democrat leadership in each city encourages this type of activity.
Do you see statues of Benedict Arnold in municipal parks all over the Northeast? I'll save you the trouble of looking it up: NO! Why? Because despite his service to the Revolutionary cause, Benedict Arnold turned out to be a traitor to the winning side of the war.
There is one Arnold statue, and it's in Saratoga National Historical Park in Stillwater, New York. Notably, the Boot Memorial lacks any mention of Benedict Arnold's name. Again, it's in a national park dedicated to the preservation of the site of the Battle of Saratoga. You do not find statues of him in towns all over Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vermont, or New York, and for good reason.
Either we are one nation or we are two. You decide.

This statement still did not change the past though did it?
It also has not changed division in anything.
So, pretty words but basically useless and not true.
Well, it surely did not change the will of the Jim Crow era white supremacists who came after Lee, and in most cases they were the driving force behind why theses statues were erected, I will agree with you there. Their hatred and inability to become productive members of a modern society continues to the present day.
Common sense says you can't change the past, but you can surely set a more positive path into the future. As far as our divisions being what they were in the Civil War? We have came a long, long way since that bloody bitter self-destructive conflict. Sure, Trump will invigorate the white power movement for a while, they make a lot of noise and cause trouble, but at the end of the day they represent a tiny fraction of the people in this country.
The statues will come down, the radical right wing terrorists will get over it, and we will move on. Or they won't get over it and we will STILL move on despite them. Their choice.

the importance of the staues and honoring the civil war is that after we fought brother against brother, the country came back together.
the president demanded no vengence be taken against the south. the statues represent the healing that took place and honor each sides instead of wiping out any trace of the disagreement in an act of disrespect to the side that lost the war.
The contrast could not be more dramtic than when compared to middle east and other countries where hate has lived since before Christ, where mercy and forgiveness are unknown and replaced by vengence and hate.
Most of those statues came to be 40+ years after the Civil War - - it wasn't an immediate forgiveness (at least to that level).
Deleting history is what stupid people do. Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.
So - if we don't have a statue of someone, they're deleted from history? Interesting. I guess we'd better get cracking on some Hitler statues, then, wouldn't want to forget that dark chapter. Either that, or we could, y'know, teach history by means of books and museums and whatnot, instead of placing the perpetrators of history's crimes on pedestals.

Talk about emboldened by the white trash right.
The KKK, and neo Nazis are an Infinitesimally small faction of society, but the media wants you to believe all Republicans are part of those groups. Sad, you gullible libs believe all the lies.
For me, I get satisfaction out of "confederate sympathizers" getting pissed off and looking powerless. But when all is said and done, the real oppression is happening in our schools...
And of course, the boards of education in Ole Dixie are stepping over themselves to introduce text books that whitewash slavery and Jim Crow.

I don't think that at all. I have never heard anybody -- other than here -- suggest that all Republicans are part of those groups.
I have heard people say that if you don't denounce, disavow or justify these groups you are as bad as they are and I kind of agree.
But I haven't heard a Republican official or friend defend the groups...only on this board.
