Well it was a little more than just a joke, besides he is the US Attorney so I don't see him as "ruined". Times have changed, there were plenty of people with a background back then, 1940 should not be the standard in 2017.

So what about Trump, any issues or are we going back in the time machine.

Byrd was wrong about the KKK, but he was spot on about what would happen when we invaded Iraq.

The early 50's was real anti communist and the south was still segregated. It was 1960 when the grocery store got rid of the colored water fountains. I was full grown before AA could sit anywhere at the movies.. They had to sit in the balcony. And traveling minorities could not stay at many hotels.

The NAACP mourned his passing.

Whatever his other shortcomings, he was one of the great role models of our time, reminding us that we all have sinned and fall short, we all can repent and find forgiveness.

I'm dying to add some Trump quotes here re forgiveness but like Auntie Em, "well being a Christian woman, I can't".
Yet Trump who was never called a racist EVER until he ran for POTUS is lambasted because he chooses his words poorly and failed to clearly articulate what he was saying. More hypocrisy from the left. This is priceless.

The Democrats ruined Sessions shot at becoming a federal judge because of it. So yeah, they ruined his judicial career on the bench.

Putting BLM on equal footing with Klansmen amounts to more than poor choice of words, besides he had time for a prepared response and blew it. I thought he surrounded himself with smart people, this wasn't his first day on the job so please stop with the excuses.

News flash: the only differences between BLM and the modern day Klan are a) who they target b) who they vote for and c) the Klan has been disavowed by the vast majority of conservatives while the BLM is still being sheltered by the liberals. Both are racist idiots who will resort to violence in order to get their point across.

One other difference: at least the Klan admits to being racist. The BLM is still trying to hide it.

The republican judiciary committee denied him the judgeship, he had too much history for anyone to approve him. There were several things that led to the loss and his comments and actions are obviously viewed differently today. He was a senator for several decades so things worked out.

In March of '86, Sessions conceded that he had referred to the NAACP, the National Council of Churches and the ACLU as communist-inspired and un-American. He admitted that he was, as he put it, sometimes loose with my tongue

So, he lost the judgeship for being honest? Seems that's a quality you'd want in a judge.

He didn't even apologize. He ran for the US Senate in 1952, and said he stopped paying his dues.

If David duke stopped paying his dues, would the dems think he was suddenly no longer a racist and a nice person?
