I'm in MA (Western) and can assure you that 95% of the counter protesters were there because they truly care about human beings. This is overwhelming a Catholic area and social justice and equality are front and center.
Compare that to the attitudes elsewhere and you get some idea of what New England is about.

You should go view the DC protests, every one of them has an assortment of causes they are protesting, and seems it comes down to Trump is the cause of all of them.
