Geez dude, I live in the south, and there is racism here, no doubt. Probably more so than in the north, but I have no doubt the north has its open racists as well. Its way less here than it used to be, and quite honestly, if liberals would leave it alone the younger generations would take care of it as they are the bigotry towards homosexuals.
Liberals tend to be a different stripe of racist. While they don't want to discriminate against blacks, they tacitly feel that blacks are inferior and cannot get along without liberal help against society at large. Tests must be dumbed down because liberals don't think blacks are smart enough to pass them. Laws must be enacted to aid blacks because they are not capable of making it on their own. And you cant notice any differences between blacks and whites, because the unsaid thought from liberals is that noticing differences means that blacks are inferior . Its more subtle, but in many ways more insulting. I would rather have someone admit they just don't like me than feel that I'm helpless without their aid. ( I'm not black, just relating how I would react to outright dislike vs treating me nicely but as a helpless inferior).
Republicans are fighting to keep public statues that honor men who fought to keep slavery legal in America.
Republicans say White Supremacist/NAZI protesters have the same morals as non-NAZI protesters who protest against them.
Republicans want to build a wall between America and Mexico to keep out South Americans.
Republicans want to ban Muslims from coming to America.
Republicans attack low income black Americans on welfare.
And then republicans say "Liberals are the biggest racists I know."

But republicans fully ignore the above statistics and instead say "liberals are racists."

Anyone that thinks just the South has race problems is a damn fool. There are just as many race problems in the north and other regions of the country as there are in the South.
You are right. The difference is this. The South just never learned to hide their racism.
Im not saying all Southerns are racist. Im not saying all conservatives are racist. Im not even saying everyone who supports leaving these statues up, or protests in support of them are racist.
I am saying that the South has a race problem that many dont want to acknowledge .
If I don't see a problem, it doesn't affect me, nor do I care. Those that claim to be offended are of no concern to me.

The healing process after the Civil War was to bring the country back together. Erecting monuments of both sides helped the healing process knowing both sides lost many lives and had to go on as one nation.
Now the liberal left is opening up wounds that have healed.
The liberals are now implying that the southern people and keeping their statues are a sign of racism and that their statues must come down. The left are calling the southern people traitors as if they are still the enemy. This is dangerous to hear this.
They are now dividing the country again to demand these statues are to be removed. It is as if they believe the south is racist yet the history of this country has long moved on.
The left is stirring up any hate they can through dividing us.. Those self righteous people who think they are fighting a cause are creating hate and division.. these so called do gooders are ratcheting it up and it will not be good for our nation.
Everything south of Canada is the South so let's include the North as well in this whole mess. While things weren't perfect pre Trump we were definitely on a glide path to a better place in terms of the race issue. Trump has screwed that positive trajectory up, and has emboldened racists and all other stripes of racial haters.
What happens going forward is on him and it might not be pretty.

I have lived in the North and the South.. Southern blacks and whites are closer than up north.. Up north the blacks are more militant.more separate.... southern blacks are happier by far. I see a big difference.. They are so much more friendlier in the south. More hospitality too.
I am a minority - mixed race to be exact (half black and half white). I live in the South, was born here but spent quite a bit of time living up North for high school and college. I felt more racism in the North personally. A lot more actually. It was so ridicously segregated up there. I could go to towns where I wouldn't see a single non-white face and I would definitely feel like I wasn't welcome. My college actually put almost all black people in the same dorm - the one wayyyy on the other side of campus. So yeah, I agree with that poster's assertion.
At least in the South, it doesn't feel as segregated and I work alongside white and black people all the time and no one bats an eye. Stores, neighborhoods, country clubs, social clubs, my kid's school, the same. Churches - totally still segregated. The South is by no means perfect but it's not this uber racist place so many people try to make it out to be. The North talks a big game of racial harmony but the reality on the ground, so to speak, is far different.
What? I lived in the South in miss. Florida and texas. All I heard was the N word! I hated it! Don't kid yourself. The White population hate blacks. The wouldn't rent to them either. I was told by a realtor to always go in person so they could see i was white. As to churches i was told that if a black person came they ignored them so they would leave.
