Fact is, I never understood why people believed that "we need a businessman in the White House." The notion is ridiculous on its face. The job of a President is a job for a politician, not an MBA. It's the highest political job in the world. Why would anyone believe that someone with no political experience is necessarily qualified for that job?

Moreover, given the culture of American business at Trump's level (the culture of avarice at all costs), what's so appealing to people about American Businessmen? We saw what happened in 2008-2009 when they nearly ran the country completely off the rails, and yet, people think that these are the people that should be running the country?

Trump is something of a real estate savant....he never once showed that he had knowledge of any other topic. Why? Because he doesn't know anything else. He's got enough money to fly around the world, but he's not worldly by any stretch. Our president should be a worldly man or woman since they'd be the most powerful politician on the planet.

Yet, I STILL hear people saying that we need a businessman in office.

You're damn right we need a businessman in office. I have thought so for the past 25 years.
We are now 20 trillion dollars in debt.
We need a lot less 'politicians' and a lot more common sense.
I'm not sure we need THIS particular businessman in office, however.

That is what we got from decades of politician rule.

You call that a success?
Amen!!

This is a lie. The markets plummeted following the Trump disaster. U.S. futures down 1.5%; global futures down more.

Global markets drop as U.S. election results shock - Nov. 8, 2016

Agreed. You've made it 100% clear you have absolutely no credibility by lying about something so easily disproven. Sad!

NOLA the stock futures were down big in the overnight after Trump won, but the market was UP beginning the day after the election win, and it's been up pretty much ever since. That is the truth.

The previous claim was that stocks rose following the election. This is a lie. Stocks plummeted.

Yes, stocks overall are up since the election, but much less than under Obama and previous Presidents. And the U.S. dollar has plummeted, indicating that global stocks are rising in spite of, not because of, the U.S. It's a global market, with the U.S. only comprising around 20% of the market.

And no one voted for Trump because of "stocks". If they cared about such things they would have voted for Clinton, obviously. The biggest bull market in history was under B. Clinton.

If you actually believe what you've written, I feel extremely sorry for for convincing yourself of things that aren't true. The stock market shot has shot up since Trump was elected....sorry you are unable to grasp that truth.

Congrats to Newt Gingrich and Bill Clinton.

Trump is a failed businessman with companies declaring bankruptcy. He dropped over 200 spots on Forbes billionaire list. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a businessman in office, just not Trump. He's an egomaniac who only cares about himself and how he looks.

Great point, politicians don't understand business and we have suffered for it....politicians just want to score political points without regard to who is actually hurt by scoring those points.

BeerGeek you are right. I remember it well.

Small business also felt more confident. I talked to other business people who were hoarding and not reinvesting during Obama's era, after Trump won they said they felt more confident and were ready to invest to expand their business.
