A lot of US military bases are named for people who fought for the Confederacy (and against the Union) during the Civil War...

Change them. Why have bases named after traitors.

This was discussed after the shooting in Charleston. Didn't happen then.

US Army mum on whether bases will keep Confederate names | Fox News

Quote:
At that time, Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, told Time there was “no discussion” regarding changing the names.
Quote:
Base names are based on “individuals, not causes or ideologies,” public affairs chief Army Brig. Gen. Malcolm Frost said in 2015, adding that each base “is named for a soldier who holds a place in our military history.”

Because Confederate soldiers and generals aren't considered traitors. With a few exceptions, they were retroactively recognized as United States soldiers. And because some of the Confederate generals were absolute geniuses on the battlefield. Hate to tell you, but the Confederacy was beaten mainly by logistics, not because the Union had a better army.

It amazes me how few people realize that the Confederate soldiers weren't considered traitors. Our schools really are failing our children.

You are in eastern north Carolina? lol

You should march right on over to fort bragg and demand they change it, camp lejeune was named after a war hero from Louisiana whose father was in confederacy. They should name it after some non miltary metrosexual liberal like Camp Joe Scarborough,Fort Colin Kaepernick, USS Lena Dunham.

The Confederacy was beaten by industrialization and lack of manpower.

But anyway...

This. I've never understood why we erect statues and name military bases, schools, etc., after a bunch of traitors.

I don't care if they were retroactively made US soldiers or if they had superior military skills. They're the very definition of traitors and should have been executed for treason the day after the civil war ended.
