And that is in essence the difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals can't help themselves. They empathize with the suffering in Texas like it was their own. They could never withhold help out of revenge or retribution. They turn the other cheek. Conservatives are quite the opposite. As evidenced by the Sandy vote, they do care about suffering. They can sympathize but not empathize. So they have no problem telling victims that they are really sorry but they can't help. They only exception is when it comes to them or they see something first hand. So they help out in their communities and put their hand out for help from everyone else in their own time of need.
Don't be ridiculous. Every American I know regardless of party is writing a check to send to Houston.
We had major floods this spring here in Montreal, thousands of homes were inundated with water damage,while the government said it would help getting the money to rebuild your house is not a given, i fear most people in Texas will be on their own when it comes to repairing their waterlogged homes.
President Trump has pledged his support to provide Texas with federal money for cleaning up Harvey. Yet it was Texas lawmakers and Ted Cruz would led the fight to block federal money for New Jersey after hurricane Sandy. I would urge Trump and other lawmakers to withhold federal monies from Texas, except for the small amount needed to directly help prevent further loss of life.
I disagree. We all pay Federal income taxes equally, we should all receive equal Federal help when needed.

Accuweather predicts 160 billion in losses for Harvey. That is a staggering number. Most of that will not be covered losses. There will be some low interest loans and public facilities will get rebuilt by tax dollars but the burden will be on the everyday people of Texas mostly. Many, many people will be financially destroyed and lose their homes and livlihood and it will be years, if ever, that Houston recovers from this to what it was before the storm.
The Houston area has been the fastest-growing in the U. S. for some time. This has led to many structures being put in places of greater danger of floods. If there was ever a time and place to put a new set of guidelines in effect, about where re-building can be done, this is it. Every bit of land where this flood has reached, should be off-limits for future use, other than for open-space parkland. This policy should prevail everywhere, that natural disasters are likely to strike.
As a warming climate will increase the frequency and intensity of these events, the nation can't afford to keep paying for re-building in these danger zones. It's a huge problem in many larger urban areas, such as Miami and New York City. But if action isn't taken now to move all these habitations to higher ground, Mother Nature will wash them away and it could happen anytime.
Making excuses for what? All of your Arizona senators and half your representatives voted no on that pork laden sandy bill as well, it had way too much stuff unrelated to sandy damage and was a ripoff. I would have voted no and I would hope people vote no if harvey aid is loaded with pork and stuff unrelated to hurricane damage as well.
Arizonans aren't coming to you with their hands out for disaster aid, are they?
Moreover, I'm not here making excuses for MCCain and Kyl, am I? They were wrong.
But these Texas cowpokes are all making excuses for Ted Cruz's grandstanding back in 2012!

Why wouldn't they want cuts to offset the spending? FEMA is only budgeted through September. The National Flood Insurance Program is up for re authorization around that time also.

The Left doesn't hate the Right. We especially don't hate the people of Texas. Even the GOP representatives from that decadent place called the East Coast have already spoken up for funding relief to Texas.

Congress has always porked up legislation which has been one of their most despicable moves. I hav no idea why any Congress critters got their ire up over that bill.
I also do not understand what the current hurrah is about:
