I'm a liberal too and am on Medicare which I paid into all my life and for which I still pay premiums and co-payments.

I think the problem is in the name. Medicare is for people over age 65 who have paid into it.

There should ALSO be something for people under 65 but it shouldn't be called Medicare. The ACA was a start and it could be fixed and would take care of the insurance problem for those under age 65. For me, the main issue is calling it Medicare.

Since we already have Medicare, just leave it alone and start something else for everyone else. Don't try to take our Medicare that we paid into and spread it around to people who never paid for it. But DO provide another good means for everyone under 65 to get health insurance and base it upon income. Not free but cheap enough so that all can afford it.

Baby boomers are the largest population and guess what ? They are on Medicare! I get mine in 6 months- !
