You remember correctly, but teenagers aren't being "recruited," as we now have an all volunteer military.
However, I do think that most eighteen year old children today (and they are children ...at least they act like it) are not intelligent enough, nor are they mature enough to vote intelligently. Most who voted for Hillary voted for her on the basis she was a woman, and would be the "first woman President." As if that was something important! Most who voted for Obama voted on the basis of the color of his skin, and because he would be "the first 'black' President" (again, as if that was important).
We have an all-volunteer military now. We also have Selective Service, and could have the draft again, any time Congress and the President choose to reinstate it.
Right now, the GOP is enjoying a day in the sun. Aging rural baby boomers came out in force to elect Donald Trump and conservative congressional candidates. Even Republicans know demographics are not on their side, which is why Ann Coulter is advocating raising the voting age to 30.
Do you agree with her? Should certain demographics be banned from voting simply because they don't vote your way?
Sounds like it was just a flippant comment by Coulter. But whatever, you can go right ahead and scream that the sky is falling.
The relationship is quite clear. Elected officials have the "right" to declare war. Shouldn't people thought old enough to go to war have a voice in selecting them?
I've about reached the limits of my ability to "dumb down" this argument, so why don't you take a shot at explaining how they are unrelated?
Evidently it's not dumbed down enough for you to understand.
Voting is an activity that stands on it's own.
Choosing to enlist is an activity that stands on it's own.
Military enlistment is only for people ages 17 -35. So, are you suggesting that only people ages 17 - 35 be eligible to vote? After all, if you can't enlist then you shouldn't vote.
Or why not restrict office holders to ages of 17 - 35? Why should somebody 60 years old be able to send people 17 - 35 into war? Why should 60 year olds have the right to declare war when they don't have to fight the war?

It may have been. Coulter is nothing but a nasty, irresponsible little attention <edited>. The problem is the people who actually listen and take her seriously, as you can easily see by looking at the replies to this poll.

Linking voting to enlisting is ridiculous.
Your shovel looks worn out. Would you like another one?

You obviously took this thread title too literally. Conservatives don't want to raise the voting age to 30. I've never met anyone who wants to raise the voting age to 30.
And it's quite clear that you can't handle Coulter since she is correct on a lot of statements. The video of her predicting Trump's win is a classic and there are many others. If Hillary had "listened and taken her seriously", maybe she would have won. IF CNN had "listened and taken her seriously" instead of laughing at her, maybe CNN wouldn't have looked so foolish after the election.

No one with more than three functioning brain cells cares what gimmick she's trying to pull at any given time.
It would be interesting to see how people of different age groups and political affiliations respond to the question of voting age. And here's something else to ponder: If you support raising the minimum voting age, do you also support terminating voting rights for those of advanced age, too?
