Every race or ethnicity has some sort of culture/community center, festival, etc. Why black people having one gives you a headache, I don't know, but it's obvious you have some issues with black people. Then the "I'd get less" after the cotton ball incident on confirms your issues. You should probably seek help. That's true. This thread is complaining about black people complainingLol.
Black people don't have the market share on complaining. This forum is a microcosm of that. I'll leave it at that. Definition of a troll. Or someone with a lot of issues. Probably both.
A group of Black college students gets outraged and calls a White man, a college president no less, racist for serving them collards at a dinner.
No matter how many ways that you try to spin it, that is just ridiculous.
Agreed. But he would hardly be the first to stumble into the minefield known as Identity Politics.
Identity Groups demand to be treated differently. Then, when you do indeed treat them differently, the result is yet more outrage.
I think it really comes down to a perception of not being valued. The cotton centerpieces just set the underlying issue on fire. When you ask students to attend an event purportedly to facilitate a discussion, dismiss them when they raise an issue of concern, and then ramble on about yourself, it doesn't give the impression of a genuine effort to listen. This is an important lesson for all of us in our interactions with others. If one truly cares about another person or group, then one puts aside one's own concerns in the interest of true understanding. People don't respond well to condescension but empathy works wonders.
i find it odd that he would purposely have this dinner with cotton table decorations and "black food" (i didn't realize macaroni and cheese is considered "black food". we're white here in our house and mac & cheese is a favorite and has been in our family and with friends, etc. for my whole life. who knew...) and not get called out on it. surely he would have to have known that this would raise some eyebrows.

Mac & Cheese was introduced to the colonies by Thomas Jefferson, and it was not initally well-received by visitors to Monticello. Not kidding. True story.
