I don't know why you are discussing the EPA. The only thing the EPA can do is fine San Diego for having polluted water.

The EPA fines Texas for bad air when the Mexican fires smoke drifts north. Nothing Texas can do but "pay the man".

Sometimes the EPA is a joke. If they are supposed to be protecting us why do we have all these toxic waste sites in the US ?

Well, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you actually read the article.....but the question is, did you comprehend the article?

The EPA was created in 1970 to protect human health and the environment, but Trump favours devolving much of its work and responsibilities to US states.
And maybe, just maybe you should read up on ISO 14001.....

Now, you'll have to do a little reading...and apparently you can read (maybe), but it appears you may not be in the comprehension stage yet....

I'm constantly amazed by how difficult the whole "keep poop away from drinking water" concept seems to be for most of the world.

This has been going on for a long time down there.

It's sad too because the water temp off Imperial Beach is about as warm as it gets here on the Pacific coast. Good for swimming and whatnot...minus the poop of course.

The toxic waste sites predate the EPA, from when business did not have regulations against dumping.

The focus is on cleaning them up, or at least preventing the spread. Where possible, the companies responsible have been required to pay into the funds set aside to clean them up. Some of these waste sites are so old that the original companies are long gone, but others are still around (often under new names or as subsidiaries of other companies). It can be difficult and expensive to detoxify a site, and in some cases not even possible, so people need to be warned about them, prevented from building nearby, or letting children play at the locations. Some (like Love Canal for example) experienced high rates of birth defect and cancers in children.

That would be our nation all over if the United States had not become aggressive in the 1970's to fight pollution. Mexico and China stand as prime examples of what would happen to us if the Republicans succeed in their efforts to cripple or kill the EPA.

Why do you care what the OP posted, unless it goes against your ideological/partisan view, thus problems should be ignored if it does not fit neatly into your perspective?

You are shooting arrows in the wrong direction. I'll ignore the unmerited barbs for the present.

Someone posted:

Which is where I come in. And you know, he's right.

There is a lesson to be learned here. We could easily be the one's generating raw sewage if we followed the Republican agenda. Cleaning our waste with those expensive waste treatment plants seem like an onerous burden to some, and were opposed by many when the regulations went into effect (of course the old 'job killing' ploy was used, among others).

So let's not just look down our noses at others around the world, when our own right wing politicians want to do exactly the same here, and turn our beautiful country into a wasteland.

The EPA does not clean waste water. Municipalities do, Waste Water Treatment Plants do, Water Reclamation Facilities do.

The EPA is a corrupt bureaucracy which demands impossible and useless regulations.

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System does fine with this, the EPA comes in, turns the wrong valve, and turns the Animas River orange.

Quote:
The EPA has taken responsibility for the incident, but refused to pay for any damages claims filed after the accident on grounds of sovereign immunity, pending special authorization from Congress or re-filing of lawsuits in federal court.[9] Governor of Colorado John Hickenlooper declared the affected area a disaster zone. The spill affects waterways of municipalities in the states of Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, as well as the Navajo Nation. As of August 11, acidic water continued to spill at a rate of 500–700 US gal/min (1.9–2.6 m3/min) while remediation efforts were underway.[10]

Standard Progressive agenda: Grow federal government with it's one size fits all approach in order to raise people from cradle to grave. Why the states can't possible handle it. The left is full of helpless children.

That should be common knowledge.
