Interesting how in one the photos that there were white and black children together as friends and that was the 1950s which was supposedly the most "racist" era.
There certainly was many civil rights issues back then that needed to be addressed to ensure equal rights for all. But I have seen many history photos of more racial inclusion in the 1940s/1950s then today in city neighborhoods.
Wonder if white and black school children go to school together in 2017? Sure I am sure it happens, but seems like there was more integration back then.
Wonder if white and black children live in the same neighborhoods in Chicago today. It looks like Chicago was more integrated back then.
Amazing, how liberal cities who claim to have such respect for diversity are so segregated these days. Extreme segregation in liberal cities in 2017 but makes them look more like the 1940s and 1950s South.
Despite all the new technology, it seems like America is becoming more and more regressive
by the day.
The image put forth of the 1950's cultural utopia was (and is) BS - your main problem here is believing that it was truly a "great time" or the gold standard to which we should compare all other time periods.

The thing those kids had in common was poverty.
Just pointing that out.
Obviously, not everyone in the 1950s was racist. There were white people happily talking to black people in 1780. It's not like everyone at any given point is racist or equally so. But when we talk about the 1950s, we're usually talking about the appearance of the 1950s. Middle class, suburbia 1950s. And that was racist. Again, not everyone who lived in the suburbs was necessarily racist. There was however policy made to push black people out of the suburbs and most of that "1950s utopian" propaganda showed almost exclusively white people.
What's good about the 1950s is mostly just legend.
