Not surprised at all. Russia has NOTHING to lose here and everything to gain. Time will tell if/when Tech companies like Twitter, FB, Google bring forth all info. I know that in the past 2 years more people have been using social media as their only source of news. Social media the wild west of news where anything is reported. It's why I don't participate in social media activities. I've seen very smart and successful people that I personally know repost complete garbage that they though was true. A very fast search debulked most of these posts very quickly.
The problem is with social media as a source of news is most of it is accessed on a mobile device so people glance at a headline and just run with the story. No time to digest just regurgitation of crap.
