Of late, I've reluctantly come to agree with this view - especially when the House attempted to go after the tax-deferred status of retirement accounts. Companies no longer provide retirement benefits. Why would Congress attack the only possible means people may have of securing their futures - especially the younger people? Clearly, because they don't care.
Next they'll be going after SS and Medicare because we "can't afford it" - never mind they are once again blowing up the debt giving tax cuts to those don't need them. There will be no investment in the economy or new hiring or higher wages. Instead, expect the opposite - higher interest rates, recession, job losses, lower wages for those rehired.

Americans are frequently being forced to work until they are near death. We have people with terminal cancer working to keep their healthcare coverage in order to avoid bankrupting their family.
what kind of nation condemns a man or woman to work themselves into the grave to profit another person a few dollars more.
We need to ask ourselves is this really the america our forefathers fought to make? I don't care what party you are, excluding selfish greedy people there can't be anyone here who believes we are on the right path.
Surely we need to improve fiscal security for the average man and woman. ie national healthcare insurance for everyone. better employment terms. and improved quality of life.
What is it we are trying to achieve? is it just individual wealth or is it a better life , a better future for everyone's kids and not just my kids.

The question to ask is 'who are the "we"?'
We, the people, want a better future for everyone's kids and not just my kids. Clearly, that is NOT what Congress and its donors want. If they did, they would be doing their best to strengthen and support the elements of our life which make us strong and prosperous - education, health care, saving for the future.
Instead, this latest tax "reform" has exposed Congress for what it is - discourage higher education (eliminate student loan deduction), reduce accessibility to health care (eliminate mandate, go back to pre ACA unaffordable/unavailable high risk pools) and eliminate deduction for medical expenses - considerable for many people, saving for the future (temporarily failed attempts to attack tax-deferred status of IRAs).
Under this new tax "reform," the illusory "tax cuts" for the small fry gradually evaporate and finally expire in five years - while the benefits for the ultra-rich remain.
When people tell you who they are - believe them.
