We have no idea how many operations he has become involved in (like the many dead in Yemen) because he claims he's not going to tell the American people (or even most of the command and control) what his "generals" are doing.

In other words, we have a tin hat dictator with control of people's lives...who seems to be fine with taking them without the OK of Congress, NATO, the UN or another other org we might actually partner up with.

I'd be really amazed if our killing and/or dying in Niger achieved ANYTHING other than the loss of money and American/Allied blood.

Probably the saddest aspect of this whole debacle is that there is no such thing as a "win" when you spend millions and get a couple Americans killed going after some Islamists in sub-saharan Africa. Meanwhile, the Talibs seem to feel they have free reign to kill our "troops" (Afghan military and police) by the dozens or hundreds.

Even an idiot stops jumping into bushes full of bees nests once they realize they are going to be constantly stung. Sure, we can kill a bunch of ones and twos of the dozens of groups that have popped up since GW invaded Iraq. But it's time to be done with large parts of this mess - like getting out of Afghanistan for good.

I have no problem with droning a high level commander or the like in Syria or other lawless place. But being engaged in real war (undeclared) in sovereign nations all over the world is not going to work out well for anyone except the arms makers.
I think you just dropped the MIC - well done!

With it involving military deaths, the military itself is already investigating it.

and either way the dems will hunt this down, not because they are worried about it, but because they now know they need to lie and cheat like the GOP has been doing if they are to succeed.

the left tried to be fair, and look what you lot did. Your GOP buddies stole a SCOTUS seat and obstructed the POTUS for 6 straight years, your guys even closed down the gov at a time the nation was on its knees just to score political points.

i no longer vote R.

maybe now you can see why the dems are starting to push these stories ...
Back during Obama's administration they had to ask for permission before they could do. If they went and did they got into trouble. Remember during Benghazi that there were SF guys waiting to go and they were told they couldn't because they had no authorization? Troops were in Tropoli (In Africa then too).

I'm going to share part of a quote my husbands command said in a meeting not too long ago. "There are people out there who want to harm your husbands." That is the reason why Trump is not going to say anything because they know someone is out there to harm our troops. Why give them more information?
Even using drones has it's own downsides.

There is no such thing as a perfect plan in places like Niger, Mali and Libya. These are dangerous areas but the issue is the lack of information, even McCain was left out for two weeks and he is on the foreign relations committee.

There are perfectly rational, logical and reasonable explanations for just about anything and everything - but the real question was whether the "command" referred to the US Constitution and the fact that only Congress can declare and fund war.

Not to say they are doing their part.....they have abdicated all responsibility also.

I remember those good ole days like in the 1980s when we were fighting almost.....nowhere. Now we are occupying and/or threatening a large part of the world.

Not only don't we have the resources to back up or "win" on these actions, but the resulting degradation of our position in the world as ANY kind of an honest broker is down the tubes. In other words, we no longer can speak from a position of being the "good guys". That is perhaps the biggest change.

This could be huge. McCain knows something is foul about U.S. soldiers fighting in Niger. He sure did mention possibly pulling out the subpoena card very early.

Why have reporters begun pronouncing Niger as "knee-share"? Yet they pronoun Nigerian correctly?

We've had troops there since 2013, so who's the tin hat dictator.

Interesting segment on the Rachel Maddow show tonight ragarding Chad. Their military has been a force in fighting Biko Haram, Al Qaeda and other terror groups in Niger, Nigeria and Mali. Then Chad ended up on the new travel ban and they withdrew their forces from Niger and other countries around the end of September in response.

They are different countries Niger and Nigeria. Niger is a French speaking country, hence the French pronunciation. Nigeria is country to the south of Niger. It was colonized by the British and is English speaking. People from Niger are called Nigeriens with a French pronunciation, while those from Nigeria are called Nigerians.
