Are you kidding me? I'm not in the habit of answering any personal questions. Simply because they're asked doesn't mean that they need to be answered--and that applies to a stranger on the phone or a doctor ( the latter would get "N/A" on that form).
Everyone here knows that DH and I own guns. You're all strangers, but you don't know where we live.
The police are not required to tell the truth unless under oath. There is nothing to be gained by publicly stating gun ownership and there may be something lost.

I also despise the NRA--I think they invent issues in order to keep the bucks flowing in. No one's coming to 'take our guns'
Tragedies like Las Vegas and Sandy Hook are the price we pay..for our right to bear arms. I know people hate to hear it put that way..but it is the simple truth.
No gun owner I know would tell some anonymous caller if they have guns or not, it's completely stupid to do so. Would you tell some anonymous caller how many flat screen TVs you have? How many IPads? How much cash you leave in the dresser drawer?
You probably fall for the calls telling you your computer has virus and they're calling from Microsoft to help too.
Unlike iPads and cash, people often advertise on their homes that they have guns.
See the following types of signs:
"This house doesn't call 911"
"Bullets are too damn expensive for warning shots"
"NRA"
In California, if you call 911 from your home phone one of the first questions the operator will ask is "Do you have any guns in the home?" Would you lie?

I am not sure why a 911 operator would need to know if I had any guns in my house hold, but the biggest difference in this type of call, was that you are the making the call, and not someone random calling you, that you are not able to verify.

I see lots of homes with signs like this around here, but honestly I think most of them would call 911 in a heartbeat if something ever did happen at their property.
Based on the reactions here, we have no way of knowing if gun ownership is increasing, decreasing or staying the same, because any type of survey on this topic would be highly unreliable.
So, when the anti-gunners keep saying the number of homes with guns are decreasing, it's probably just worthless data from an unreliable survey.
Pretty much what I expected.
