I so hope you are right. It isn't the 'left' discussion -- it's reading Trump's tweets and trying to figure out what he is meaning - -without any media involved...just readnig his tweets, listening to him talk.

It is a left - right issue as you demonstrate. Lose, lose. That is consistently the position of the left. If Trump does this he loses. If he does the opposite he loses. He is always presented in a no win for him position regardless of what he does.

IF you really want to talk about the prospects of a nuclear war, then drop the Trump Derangement and especially the commentary about 10s of millions of people you don't know. But I don't think you have it in you.

If the US did a first strike, China would do something.
If NK did something first, China would sit it out.

Of all the nations on earth, the one least likely to be attacked is the USA.
Even a little tinpot tyrant like Kim completely understands that a launch on America means he and his fellow Norks die in minutes and their "country" becomes an uninhabitable wasteland for decades. No more goose stepping parades, no more imported western porn flicks, no more "adoring crowds."
Besides, we have systems in place to knock down whatever NK can muster.
NK is a threat to the US like I'm a threat to one of those UFC fighters.
Everybody should be scared of nuclear war. I think Carl Sagan once made a calculation that all it would take to wipe out humanity would be a "limited" nuclear exchange targeting only 100 cities. That would be enough to start a nuclear winter.
But my question is what would China do? You and the communists that write that paper don't seem to have an answer to that.
They would "intervene", that is what they said.
This is their official talk. My guess is that they would keep on negotiating, maybe selling weapons to NK like they always do.
