Here is the problem with that. That stone is only good for one person's grave, Jake Leatherman. Not like repossessing a car that can be sold to someone else. I don't think it can be altered to be used for another person's grave.
While I understand the reasons the stone company did it, I think it was a bad move. They will get tons of negative press over it, and they would have been better to leave it there and then sue the parents for the money.
Dumb move on their part.
Headstones don't cost a lot so just the re-po cost alone, let alone legal costs make that extremely difficult to do.
That's why older used cars carry such high loan interest rates even if you have good credit. The cost to repo and associated fees are a high % relative to the cars value.
The bottom line here is that the family wouldn't pay and likely wouldn't even set up a payment plan and after the repo tried to bully the company by lying to the media about the status of the bill in order to get a freebee.
I was looking at a rental property recently for vacation on-line and it got a scathing review. Response by owner was that the person broke their phone while staying there and wanted them to pay $750 to them or they'd write a bad review.....lots of shady people out there, some experience tragedy just like everyone else but look in this case it worked for them as they'll have somebody step up and pay off their bill for them.
A new way to make yourself a victim. Stiff a headstone company thinking they have no recourse to collect. When things don’t go your way run to social media and cry for sympathy.
Stupid move from a business point of view. He could have written it off as a bad debt.
"...The boy, Jake Leatherman, made national news last November when dozens of NASCAR drivers, crew and other personnel attended his funeral, including Joey Logano, Matt DiBenedetto, and Ryan Ellis...."

Yes, the stone company will be absolutely demonized for doing this.
We had a guy that wouldn't pay the concrete company for a slab he had poured, so the ready mix company went out and jack hammer the slab, their argument was , he wasn't going keep it for free either

Right. Businesses should encourage irresponsible behavior. Run to the media when a business expects you to pay for the stuff you bought.
