There was a sweet spot when I was turning from a kid into a young adult.
For me it was between the end of Vietnam and the dawn of MTV.
Most of the 80's were pretty good, but things started going down hill after that.
Very true, was domestically quiet during the Ford, Carter, and much of the Reagan era.
And kids learned how to play real instruments, skills our younger generation no longer have patience for in our now instant gratification age of technology.
As a female, where I had to FIGHT to get credit- and fight to get paid the same as the stupid idiot they hire dto do the same job-? and watch some hometown gals get beat by the drunk hubby after they got back from huntin' with NO recourse? -unwanted pregnancies-? TOLD I HAD to take the economics class (cooking) not shop/ or more MALE classes-? H NO! - did I dance to the music??yea loved the music,- then later find out the albums I loved with pictures of a moon or bright lights were really written/sung by our black people- I saw how they hated the Cubans, as supposedly all were communists.
Know of black friends whose gma was scared to let me visit-- because I was white --NO-NO- NO- we are all just people....
Did we play yes- all day - pedophiles maybe scared to bother us then? not sure-- maybe the disappearances of women n kids -just kept it all quiet-?? No - I have 4 granddaughters and never want them to lose what we gained as women. I had 3 sons... they are good husbands and fathers and not a lick biased. Never, ever, want to back there and with this admin- will fight tooth n nail not to lose the progress that has been made.
Well we sure spent a lot more time outside, weren't as fat, ate better food, slept enough, and liked what music was out there. The internet has made it easier not to do those things.
This is true sad but true we lived a more balanced life then we do today even more so our children.
With that said some of the music was political during from the 60's until today. Maybe the 50's were different.
I grew up with Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. Lots of political stuff. Woodstock, free love, pot.
Fun times!!
Srsly. I was born in the 60's and even I remember how politicized the 60's and 70's were!
