Mich McConnell has taken steps to expedite judicial nominees.

The GOP has used delaying tactics on judicial nominees for the past couple of years. They hoped to create a plethora of judicial job openings, and then hoped to win the presidency. They won on both counts.

Here's the breakdown of what's happening:
*Blue Slips, which were used by senators in the past to bar unpopular nominees, will no longer be used. When a nominee comes out of committee, he gets voted on.
* There is a requirement that nominees must be debated by the senate for 30 hours. That rule will stand, but McConnell will dictate which 30 hours are used.
* Upcoming resignations plus existing ones will raise the total number of judicial vacancies to 166.
* Things will move very quickly because there is always the chance that senate leadership could be lost in 2018.

This is good news for us conservatives, and portends an end to nutcase decisions by federal appeals courts and The Supreme Court.

MAGA

(In other news, Trump doesn't have a dog and has a funny hairdoo.)

It may be good short term news but unfortunately that is how Congress thinks. Short term. That's very unfortunate.

Since federal judges are appointed for life, there is nothing short term about their appointment.

There are 2 supreme court justices in their 80s, so they may retire in the next few years.. Gorshuch is 50, so he will influence that court for a very long time.

"The GOP has used delaying tactics on judicial nominees for the past couple of years" SO?

The dems have used delay tactics for as far back as I can remember, and that is quite a while.

"Here's the breakdown of what's happening:

As I recall blue slips were used by the HOME senator, until the dems started using them for EVERY nominee.

As the say, "the winner makes the rules"

Ole' harry reid CHANGED rules as he wen along, "A budget? we don't NEED a budget" or promise to change the rules if the repubs did not do what he wanted.

The dems change the rules when they are in power, NOW the repubs are going to use the rules against them.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

He is the biggest hypocrite in the Senate. No one has done more to obstruct things than he. Hope this comes back to bite him in the ass real soon.

Just because the Communist did it, there is nothing conservative about changing the checks and balances of congressional power on a whim, to seize more power.

This country needs a conservative judiciary at all levels to reign in the rampant liberalism that threatens to destroy everything America stands for.

Yes he is and he would whine like a little baby if Democrats did the same thing.

No. Not at all. I'm a Republican and glad Mitch has taken the bull by the horns like he has. My intent was just to state the facts of the matter.

I think you are right about Blue Slips. They are now ancient history.

The delaying tactic used by the GOP was a good thing - at least in my opinion. It prevented Obama from appointing left leaning judges and bought the GOP some badly needed time. It is not often that a political plan works exactly as planned, but it looks like this one did.

A conservative judiciary will change America. So will tax reform. Taken together, we could see some real growth in America in the next few years.
