The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state's new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.
It wasn't a secret, they had marital problems for a few years, it also isn't a story because he hasn't been "goin' after folks" like Spitzer:
"This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point," Paterson conceded in his first interview Saturday. "But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on."
If all the politicians were laid end to end...
... it wouldn't surprise anyone.
Seriously though, he's up front about it. Says their marriage had a rough spot and they both saw other people but decided to try again to make the marriage work.
In a day and age when most marriages end in divorce I can't fault them too much. Since they were both "guilty" and both decided to forgive each other I'm certainly not going to judge them.
What? A politician had an affair?
I agree, it's a non-story. It isn't something he's trying to hide & telling lies to cover up. The couple had their problems and it appears that they stood up and fought their way through it (with a little help).
I say, more power to 'em. Most folks would just throw in the towel.
I will never be known as St. Tom, and while I do not condone any extra-marital affair or sinful lifestyle, I have my share of no-no's. That being said, when the member of the marriage steps outside of the marriage for an emotional need, someone gets hurt. There is no such thing as a reasonable affair, but it is not my business unless a participant is giving or losing power. Spitzer lost power because he could not enforce vice laws against those he had benefited and therefore the blackmail factor rose. Martin Luther King, Jr. lost far more when it was discovered that he had a long term affair with a Kentucky Legislator. Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, Nelson Rockefeller, and the list goes on, all lost power when they crossed the bedroom line. It is that reckless behavior that should concern the people that they lead.
I don't think he said that he hired prostitutes or that he had anything to do with prosecuting others for breaking the laws that he violated or doing so while putting into effect a law that would be harder on those that do.He also cme forward of his own and admiited it. He did notlie to a grand jury even.Seems he is not proud of it and they have worked thing out.I see no issue here.
