The process should be streamlined and the amount of time to perform a background check should be expanded. If someone needs a firearm so bad they cannot wait a few weeks, perhaps it best if they are prevented from acquiring the firearm. There is no need to maintain serious thousands of mini databsases when one national one would be cheaper and more efficient.
Tell that to Carol Browne. She had applied to the state of NJ for a purchase permit, which is supposed to be issued in 30 days. They had her waiting and waiting. In the meantime, she had an order of protection out against her ex. (We all know how well those work.) She never did get her ID card. Her ex came to her home and stabbed her to death. Too bad she had to wait a few weeks.

Uh oh. Ted Cruz proposed legislation that would have prevented this following Sandy hook and democrats filibustered it. 2013 Grassley Cruz legislation.

Federal agencies report to NCIS
Lie on form, felony.
Due to being filibustered, no prosecution. Only 44 were prosecuted out of 48,000 felons who lied on the 4473 form.

Oh he's mad.

Grassley-Cruz gun bill allows interstate transport of firearms | TheHill

Quote:
According to details provided by a source close to the negotiations, the bill would allow for the interstate sale of firearms, and for the interstate transportation of firearms providing certain conditions are met. Guns transported across state lines will have to be unloaded, locked in a vehicle or kept in the trunk.
Another pro-gun provision of the bill will allow military members to buy guns in the states where they’re stationed.

In addition to the pro-gun measures, the Grassley-Cruz bill addresses some of the gun control reforms that have so far proved more palatable for senators weary of committing to comprehensive reform.

The bill would increase the resources available to prosecutors for violators of gun laws, and creates a “Cruz Task Force” to prosecute those who fail criminal background checks. The task force is funded through an Asset Forfeiture Fund.

The bill criminalizes straw purchasing and trafficking, measures Grassley supported in committee hearings on the gun control bill that will go before the Senate later this month. It also seeks to increase safety at schools, keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, and increases accountability for prosecutions at the executive level by requiring the Department of Justice to submit reports to Congress.

That's why that law got shot down by democrats.
It was a legitimate compromise but because it was pro gun... nope. For dems when it comes to guns it's their way or no way.

just like Republicans, huh? BTW the bill also had this little tidbit in it:

"Fixes the definition of adjudicated mentally incompetent so single doctors can’t infringe on 2nd Amendment rights" < Sounds like a bad joke, how many doctors does it take to declare someone mentally incompetent, is 6 enough, or maybe 12? geezus

And the interstate transport provision would have preempted state laws which prohibited interstate transfers.
Something I would think Republicans would oppose given their propensity to defend states rights.

Doctors can politicize it. If a doctor feels you're unfit to possess a firearm because they wet their pants when they hear AR15, you better believe they'll deem you unfit to own.

Sleepy take a nap. It would have been an arrest for being Denied on a NICS check and also would have required all agencies to report swiftly those who are unfit to own... making it a harsher penalty for lying on a 4473... but no dice because doctors can't have the right to infringe wasn't allowed...

Mmm interesting... keep proving my point for me. It's not concern for your fellow man. It's concern for wanting to fundamentally change the constitution based on feeble emotion.

The criteria for reporting is:

"The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibits any person from selling or otherwise transferring a firearm or ammunition to any person who has been “adjudicated as a mental defective” or “committed to any mental institution.”15 According to federal regulations, a person has been “adjudicated as a mental defective” if a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority has determined that he or she, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease meets one of the following criteria:

Is a danger to himself, herself, or others.
Lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage his or her own affairs."

How/when in that process would there be a discussion about an AR15?
