Maybe NO ONE should be allowed to purchase guns except for a very few who have a true need for them and are able to pass a very stringent test. Again, maybe we need to be like other civilized countries. Countries in which people don't walk the streets with guns. Police have guns. The military has guns.
Of the rest who have guns, some legitimate reasons are for hunting or the hobby of target shooting. Stringent tests for them though.
Men who think they "need" guns for protection are all too often either paranoid and afraid or they are unsure of their masculinity. There are plenty of real men in other countries who are sure enough of themselves that they don't need guns to prove it.
This is true. If you stock up on arms because you fear the government is out to get you or that there are conspiracies everywhere, you are by definition mentally ill and should not be allowed to own a gun.

And send them to prison.
What if someone is suicidal, and after they kill 5, 10 ,15, 20, 30, 100, 1000 people they blow their brains out or blow themself up, they are not going to care about being prosecuted and going to prison.
The NRA is really nothing but a MARKETING group. They should be called marketers, and not lobbyists.

The president said that it was mental illness that killed these innocent people. The man with the gun must have walked into that church and killed them with his bad breath.
Right, it takes a hateful, crazy person to kill vulnerable, people, worshiping in the church of their choice, going to a movie, shopping, running, hiking, eating, drinking, enjoying their lives, minding their own business, oh and driving, biking, watching a concert. Darn those people, enjoying their freedoms and life. How dare they.
But.......guns are so quick and so damaging. What cowards these people are to walk in on unarmed, people. Having a bad life, day? When is this going to stop???

"Small hand guns" are responsible for over 80% of homicides.
They are reporting that the shooter's ex-parents-in-law attended this church, though they weren't there yesterday. The shooter had evidently appealed the domestic violence charges against him by the Air Force (could that appeal have been why the charges didn't come up during his background check?), but the appeal was denied. However, he must have felt like he had a different version of events from the version of events his ex-wife told. And maybe he had a grudge against her and her family because of that?
Exactly, so how did he end up being able to buy a gun? There must be some loophole or glitch in the system.
On thr radio this morning, they said he attempted to purchase firearms in Texas and was refused... but was able to purchase them in Colorado. It definitely sounds like a glitch!

FYI,there are other people who commit murder who are not suicidal.
Which is why when I hear a gun control person go off on rifles I have two thoughts:
Either they are so ignorant of the facts they don't know what they are talking about, or..
They are deliberately misleading to use the slippery slope to get at/ban what they REALLY want to ban in the long run: Hand guns.
Did the shooter in Texas shoot and kill 26 people with a "hand gun?"
