  • The most violent places in America have the lowest percentage of legal gun ownership.
  • On average the states with the highest rates of legal gun ownership have the lowest murder rates.
That said I don't think more or less guns in either area would change much, it comes down to the people that live there.

Since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, the U.S. has seen 1,518 acts of gun violence in which at least four people were wounded or killed

Over 1,700 dead and nearly 1 mass shooting a day since Sandy Hook - NY Daily News

That tally is a month old mind you. It’s getting hard to keep up with it all. This literally happens every day in America.
Just an FYI, I believe this list included among other things an incident where some kid was shooting others in playground with a BB gun. That hardly qualifies for "mass shooting". What i would love to see is where these mass shootings are concentrated.

I did not put words in your mouth - I attributed nothing to you that you did not say. What I did do was address a mindset that seems to be very common around here. If anyone put words in someone's mouth, you did it to me, by bringing up politics when I never mentioned them.
Well, if you call 4 guns a stock pile..................

Exactly. Coarse fractious society. Is more of a factor than anything. Hatred directed towards those of faith or who hold different beliefs. Games and movies that are violence and action after action

I would focus more toward society, mental illness, and the hurt and pain in our families before even looking at guns

That is false, on average states with the highest rates of legal gun ownership have the lowest murder rates.

If you look at that chart the only conclusion you can draw is gun ownership and gun laws have little correlation with firearm murder rates. It's all over the place.

Your chart is 10 years old. It also shows the south with the highest homicide rate.

Maybe tighter controls on permits, better background checks, stiffer penalties for unregistered guns etc. might give LEO more tools but I'm not convinced it will help much.

That leaves you with protecting yourself, better education, etc, because it seems we are back to the wild west days.

What is as bad is that many people have little tolerance. You drive a little slow in someones opinion and the next thing you know, they are pointing a gun a you. People have lost all respect for each other and you can die if you are meek, and you go to jail if you are aggressive. Everyone looses.

Couple that with commercialism where we are taught from birth not to be satisfied. We see expensive cars, private jets, mansions with swimming pools and we go home to crummy little trailer on a rented lot that we can barely make the payment on and we are not happy. We are taught racism and not to trust what is different. For 200 bucks we can go out and buy a gun and think 'this makes me equal' and I can prove it if I need to. Then the guy in a corvette in front of you is going too slow.

We need a change in our heart more than we need more bureaucracy regulating guns.
Cannot rep you enough. The crux of the problem is firearms easily obtained and in the hands of people who at some point MAY become a person who should not have one readily available.

I struggle to understand the man who'se wife decides she cannot live with him any more so she leaves with the kiddies and he reacts by loading up and going over to take all their lives including his own. If I cannot understand what linkage to reality snaps inside a guys skull to do that, I cannot even begin to fathom why anyone would enter casino or a church and start blasting complete strangers. BUT.......They continue to do this in numbers so as to compete with the worst of terrorists blowing themselves up to meet Allah.

All indications are this phenomena is going to worsen before it begins to improve. So many unhappy people choosing to embrace a legacy of horror is mind numbing. They know they'll be remembered for this one final act yet they still seek it, even plan it out for maximum shock and repugnance.

The US is a militaristic country, why is it such a big surprise some of its people are as well?

Gun related deaths and firearm related murders are two separate things. People that ride bicycles are more likely to die in bicycle related accidents than people than don't ride bicycles. People with steps in their home are more likely to die falling down the steps than people without steps in their home. Get it?

One thing stops a nut with a gun. That is another gun.

From the reports I've heard, it was another gun that stopped this one.
