Oh please. Other than the use in war, To say 'hundreds of thousands' of lives per year is total BS. PROVE IT. We would have to have total choas in the streets, at war with each other, live in bunkers, everyone having guns and shooting at each other.
This is the US, not Iraq, Afganastan or Libya.
I think you might be confused. Are you aware that semi auto firearms have been around for the last several centuries and there are an uncountable number of semi auto firearms in private and public use, as well as being produced currently?
Why? Semi autos have been used to save hundreds of thousands of lives every year. The recent shooting in Texas was stopped by someone with a semi auto rifle.

Are you asserting that only rifles are semi automatic? You do realize that handguns are semi automatic too, right? But, even going with that, someone with a semi automatic rifle stopped the shootings.
