Yes, when people think that the fact that we have some crazy people here already is justification for letting more and more crazy people in, it's pretty sick.

That's like saying that because we already have some poison in our water, we shouldn't try to keep more poison out of it.

How do you determine someone who's a knucklehead then?

As far as I know, there's no secret sauce to figuring out if someone is mentally stable. Only until after the fact when the commit a crime is when we figure it out since we have documented proof. So... the whole mental illness argument doesn't work.. practically speaking. Restricting weapons however, is an easier solution and more practical. As all it takes is regulation/ATF to go in and start removing weapons out of civilian circulation.

So if we have cultural problems can we say for sure that guns are an issue? If all guns disappeared, would the cultural problem persist and simply create other problems?

Well, in the instance of the church shooting, someone shot him before he might have went to another target.
