If there are "consequences" for the "freedom of speech," then it's not "freedom of speech" any longer.
What you have to acknowledge then, is that the "freedom" stops where the power of money begins - it's that simple.
She did it, no one stopped her, and no one is covering it up, throwing her in jail for doing so, or anything. She has that freedom to flip the bird and she exercised it. Then her employer exercised their right to fire someone they don't want associated with their company. The government took no action to stifle her freedom of speech. (or gesture in this case )

I agree. Nothing far left, threatening, or radical. She lost her job because her employer does not want to be associated with someone who flips the bird at a motorcade They have the freedom to do that. And she still has her freedom to flip the bird at the next motorcade, just not as an employee of that company. She has no "right" to a job with that company, only a right to freedom of speech without being suppressed by the government.

Not so fast. Not only her employer "has the freedom to do that," but he has the POWER afforded to him by HIS MONEY to punish her.
When the "left"-minded people want to punish the "right-wingers" for their speeches on campuses (just an example) they DON'T have the same power.
And that's where lies the origin of the "far left," starting from antifa.
So talking about the "consequences" and "price to pay" - be careful what you wish for I'd say.
P.S.

If the speech is not "suppressed by the government," yet it's suppressed by other means, such "freedom of speech" is not worth much.
If she is so valuable, she wouldn't need a "job", she would be in business for herself. And then she would have that evil power to hire and fire whomever she chose to exploit for her profit.
Again, no one stopped her from flipping the bird, and she is free to continue to do so. She had, and still does have, her freedom of speech. Just not a job, LOL
It's priceless that our government cannot suppress our Freedom of Speech.
"Priceless?"
No, as we can see with the current example, the price is put on "freedom of speech," even if not through the government.

It's priceless that both employer and employee have full Employment at Will protections, so each has total Freedom of Association.
This whole "employment at will" protects first of all the employer; the employee on another hand often works not because of "employment at will," but because he/she needs to eat.
I suspect we are heading to times, when each and every claim of "freedom" in America is going to be tested for its genuineness.

.
Nonsense.
Whenever someone leaves a job for another job, the employee is exercising Employment At Will.
Again, no one has lost their freedom of speech. She flipped the bird, and can do it again, as many times as it amuses her. That she was fired from her job, did not, and does not, eliminate her freedom of speech.
Whenever someone leaves a job for another job, the employee is exercising Employment At Will.
It works both ways, every day of every year.
No it's not "nonsense" as much as you'd like to believe.
The employee has to notify the employer, to give him/her couple of weeks to find the replacement, and in case of searching for a new job, the last word is still with the employer, who will ( or won't) give the positive references to its former employee ( keeping those two last weeks in mind including.)
Question; did this woman get her two weeks to look for a new job, or not so much?

2 weeks is typical, but not a legal requirement. "Has to" is 100% inaccurate. No legal notification period exists.
When you are fired for cause, having you stay would present a risk to the corp, so I would hope she was not allowed to stay then.
