You have to pass a test to get a license to drive a car. The purpose of a car is transportation not death.

If the government passed a law limiting gun ownership to revolvers and shotguns, they would still be well within the 2nd Amendment; same as if they passed a law that anyone who fails some basic responsibility or sanity test can't own a gun. The 2nd Amendment, literally speaking, only protects trained militia anyway, but even with its expanded definition, it does NOT allow citizens to own "whatever weapons they want" regardless of their mental state or criminal background. It is absurd to pretend that this right applies to everything or that this right can't be lost through one's actions.

But you know what? Let's play pretend and act like the 2nd Amendment does grant you that right. That simply means it's a stupid and utterly idiotic law. Nobody with an ounce of common sense can say that we should be allowing the average citizen to own military grade weapons. Look at all the idiots on the road these days who can barely drive a car without crashing it - you want to give them an "assault rifle" or some other mass-murder weapon? Come on...

Just remember that the Constitution originally supported slavery, and that was upheld by the Supreme Court for a long time. So, even if "anyone can own any weapon they want," that doesn't mean it's right. Mistakes have been made in the past, and it's laughable and pathetic the amount of lives that need to be lost before people realize that allowing lunatics, thugs, and irresponsible and unstable idiots to own "mass murder" guns is a horrible idea.
Bolded text is incorrect..... But there is a process to change the Constitution. If this process is followed then I will live with the outcome.

Really? The guy walked into a church, unarmed, and used his mental health issues to somehow "kill people with his mind?" Or are you honestly telling me that he would have been able to kill 20+ people if he had been armed only with a hammer? Come on - nobody is buying it. If he didn't have access to a high-end gun - an "assault weapon" just to use that term to annoy the ignorant right their laughable parsing of semantics - he wouldn't have been able to kill all those people.

Honestly, listen to yourselves and step away from the gun cult for a moment and THINK.

If a known drunk gets in his car and murders a half-dozen people outside a bar by running them over, do we stand around and wring our hands over the "sad mental health and addition issues" involved and pretend access to the car had nothing to do with the killings? Nobody is that stupid, and I find it very amusing that the far-right who normally pretends mental health issues don't exist and people just need to "man up and take it!" are now simpering about the poor killer's mental state just to protect their sacred mass-murder guns.

You cannot with a straight face justify allowing any lunatic, thug, or irresponsible idiot to own a gun, nor can you come up with a single reason why the average citizen needs a weapon designed to do one thing - kill as many people as possible in a large area. We don't allow idiots who are dangerous on the road to keep on driving, nor do we allow the average citizen to buy a pile of big-rigs, no questions asked, and plow them into people on the roads. Guns are not sacred, but lives should be. Sad that this should need explaining to the "Christian," gun-loving right.

Actually, literally speaking, that IS all it protects. A "well-regulated" militia. Yes, the Supreme Court extended that to individual gun ownership... but they also for over 50 years considered slavery acceptable, so they are not infallible.

That being said, the 2nd Amendment in no form - even the expanded definition - grants anyone the "right to own whatever weapons they want," nor is the right to own a gun somehow exempt from the limitations on all other rights, that being that your actions may cause you to forfeit those rights. I have the "right" to freedom and to walk freely up and down my street whenever I want. Does that mean we should free all the criminals in prison because they no longer have that right? Same fail logic.

No, the 2nd Amendment does NOT grant you the right to own any and all weapons no matter how irresponsible, violent, drugged-up, or insane you may be. Nothing does, and even if something did, such a law would be so mind-mindbogglingly stupid that nobody could with a straight face defend it.

So said Trump's pentagon nominee.

Let's see Trump fans spin this "Fake news!"
Exactly, you don't buy an Armalite AR-15 to go Deer Hunting; they are meant to kill multiple people plain and simple

And yet the worst of the gun-nuts feel that no tests or restrictions should be placed on guns... even though their purpose is "death" and just as capable of killing as a car. They also feel that there should be no additional tests for owning the firearms equivalent of a: big-rig, an oil tanker, a tank, etc. It's pure insanity on their part.

All assault weans should be banned, plain and simple. No one needs a weapon whose sole purpose is mass killing.

^^^^^Nice anti Christian, anti American rant. Address the actions of criminals, not the inanimate object the criminal uses. It could be a gun, car, truck, bomb, or anything. Do not take my RIGHT of gun ownership away due to your emotional "feelings". Should I not be able to protect myself, and family from harm?

Because having guns are one the rights. What other rights do you have which have restrictions? Are you limited to how often you can post on the Net? How many adult movies you can make a year? Must you be educated before you can vote? Does being arrested too many times limit how many times you have a right to a fair trial?

Cars and like are not rights under the Constitution.
